Yeah, if you haven't yet guessed it, 'exotic' breeds such as the Siberian Husky. http://news.sky.com/story/1003819/old-english-sheepdog-facing-extinction Interesting, the journalist does not state how many new KC registered Sibes there are this year, yet s/he quotes figures for other popular breeds... presumably, the Sibe isn't at the top of popular breeds then. (Inside thoughts: Thank God.) Predictably though, the journalist had lifted material directly from a Kennel Club newsletter. Lol! I would have expected that from the Daily Mail, but not Sky news. I did a google search on this topic but couldn't find any figures published about Sibes - just vague opini…

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/49375536/ns/technology_and_science-space/#.UILlwYa0KSo Move over, Hope Diamond. The most famous gems on Earth have new competition in the form of a planet made largely of diamond, astronomers say. The alien planet, a so-called "super-Earth," is called 55 Cancrie and was discovered in 2004 around a nearby star in our Milky Way galaxy. After estimating the planet's mass and radius, and studying its host star's composition, scientists now say the rocky world is composed mainly of carbon (in the form of diamond and graphite), as well as iron, silicon carbide, and potentially silicates. At least a third of th…

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/49380552/ns/technology_and_science-science/#.UILmqoa0KSo Archaeologists believe they have found the first physical evidence of the spot where Julius Caesar died, according to a new Spanish National Research Council report. Caesar, the head of the Roman Republic, was stabbed to death by a group of rival Roman senators on March 15, 44 B.C., the Ides of March. The assassination is well-covered in classical texts, but until now, researchers had no archaeological evidence of the place where it happened. Now, archaeologists have unearthed a concrete structure nearly 10 feet wide and 6.5 feet tall that may have be…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-19846642 It sounds like the ideal job - the chance to sit down, read a book and perhaps idly strum a ukulele. But Bangor University graduate Jamie Fox has to do it in all weathers, as a human scarecrow in a field in Norfolk. Mr Fox, 22, has been employed to scare partridges from a field of oilseed rape at Aylsham because conventional birdscarers have not worked. As well as wearing a bright orange coat, Mr Fox uses an accordion and a cowbell to frighten the birds. Mr Fox, who graduated in the summer with a degree in music and English, earns about £250 a week scaring the partri…
