While you are in the house, keep training her, puts treats in the crate so eventually she will go in on her own to get them, make the crate a good place to be so she only knows positive things about it. The odd time close the door while she eats the treat, gradually build it up. As other have said when you go out give her a kong toy with treats in it.
I might be in the minority letting my husky off the lead. Saying a husky may recall for years then one day decide not to, could be said about any dog with a prey drive which most dogs do. When I take Zena on the field, most recently this morning all she wants to do is play with the other dogs, she does this for about an hour then she gets put back on the lead and we go home. I've done training with her since she was 8 weeks and still train her now she is nearly 3
I've trained Zena with recall since she was 8 weeks, it works cos she is food motivated. Training is still constant. I only let her off at the beach or on a big field, she is brilliant with other dogs and just likes playing so I leave her too it, after play time she gets put back on the lead.
Zena has never bolted off like that, if she did I'd never let her off again. Sure she runs ahead a little but always looks back and either waits or runs back. On the beach last Saturday she was playing with another female husky but always close to us.
Yeah I heard about same sex not getting on as well but I thought the age gap might make it easier, zena still acts like a puppy around all other dogs at the mo!
Zena will be 3 in July this year and while I'm off for 2 weeks just prior to that, I'm thinking about getting another puppy. I'm wondering how Zena will react, will she kind of act like a parent or still want to play. I fancy a boy next but the missus wants a girl again. What did your huskies do?
Sounds like you need to keep him on the lead.
I let Zena off lead on the beach and the local field away from traffic and so far she has been really good. She just loves to play with other dogs and/or stay fairly close to me and run after me if I run the other way.
Other option what we did is put her crate inside a pen area with puppy pads so you don't need to get up during the night at least then the crate stays clean
I use James well beloved food and treats
Start by putting treats in her cage during the day, leave the door open, then built it up. Give her a treat and close the crate door for 5 mins just a gradual built up, Zena has never gone mad in her crate so it worked for us
