  1. She is beautiful! There is nothing cuter than a husky puppy. Her parents are great looking also, she will be a beauty. Congrats!
  2. I do bathe him when he is blowing his coat, it seems to help a bit. Other than that, the only other time was when he was skunked and then it was many baths.
  3. Aw he's adorable and looks like a healthy, full husky to me. I remember when my pup was so little with giant ears. Yes their coats and masks change as they grow. Even from age 1 to 2 my husky's mask has changed and continues to. Have fun with your cute puppy.
  4. I am not a runner and could never keep up with my guy if he is running so we walk. You will never find a leash long enough to keep up with him running, lol. When we are on a walk and he wants to run or pull, I keep the leash short and close to me with little room for him to run. His time to run is in the yard or dog park, not during a walk. If you are consistent she will learn. We have a Kong ball that my dog loves getting any kind of treat out of, it doesn't matter what is in it, it keeps him busy getting the treats out. I love watching him throw the ball around to knock the treats out, he knows exactly what to do.
  5. We use a martingale collar when our pup is on his trolley line but a front hook harness for walks to help prevent pulling. I have heard good things about the head halti harness so hopefully that works for you. I wouldn't use the martingale to prevent pulling on walks, I would recommend the front hook harness or halti. My dog will still pull on leash with the martingale to the point where he is choking himself so we prefer the harness.
  6. We have cold winters here also and I wouldn't let my pup sleep outside. While he enjoys the cold and likes spending time outdoors in the winter, he also loves to come in plop down in front of the space heater for long periods of time. I can't imagine sending him outdoors all night in the winter. He is a spoiled dog and loves his indoor bed and being part of the family. I've never had any issues with fevers or illness and we certainly have big temperature swings here. He does have a typical husky sensitive tummy.
  7. Aw he is so cute, almost makes me miss the puppy stage, I love soft puppy fur. I don't miss the crazy amount of energy, chewing and whining though. They are an awesome breed and he will eventually settle in and settle down, at least a little. When our pup was little, we were hesitant to use a crate at night and when we were out because he cried, howled, complained and hated it. Eventually we stuck with it and it worked out great, I recommend it for a little guy. I also agree that socialization is very important for a young pup. I have to say I am partial to one of your name ideas - our guy Lobo is 2 years old now and he is the sweetest boy I could ever ask for.
  8. Lobo was mouthy when he was a puppy and those puppy teeth are sharp! We also used a frozen washcloth and carrots as well as toys. I think he was probably closer to 6 months by the time we had it under control. Distraction, substitution and consistency is the best advice I can offer but it also took time.
  9. I feed my dog grain free and it helps. For a short period we tried a high quality but not grain free food and it caused loose stools and lots of walking around when he was going. I have found dogfoodadvisor a great resource for determining food quality, although not sure if it only had US foods.
  10. Last night Lobo was out in the yard for a while. When I went to bring him in I saw he had something in his mouth. He dropped it and I went to check it out and saw a long tail (yuck) and went in to get my husband. He came out and said it's a young opossum and it was dead. I have no idea where/how he got it. It's the first critter I know of that he's killed. He has a rabies shot, is there anything else I need to be worried about? He seems fine, no visible injuries or anything. Although I am not a fan of opossum, I am not loving that he killed one.
  11. Agree with above comment, hopefully you have researched the breed as they aren't for everyone and can be challenging if you don't know what you are getting into. I am sure you can research breeders and rescues and in your area and find many available huskies.
  12. Lobo just turned 2 and is a tall husky. He weighs 70 lbs and actually looks a bit on the thinner side. Several times recently when I've been out walking him people have asked if he's a puppy or how big will he get when fully grown. Um, no, he is really tall for a husky and hopefully done growing. Maybe because he is a little thin they ask but I am always a little surprised anyone thinks he is still a puppy. Does anyone else get questions like that?
  13. Yep I have had that happen a number of times. I went to 2 schools that had huskies as their mascots so I've always known what they looked like but I guess that's not the case for everyone. If I objectively look at my pup, I guess he looks intimidating, but I don't see wolf. Strangers don't know what a sweet, friendly, big baby he is when they see him. I think part of the confusion is that huskies often are used to portray wolves in movies. That is certainly a disservice to the breed.
  14. Lobo is the same way when he sees another dog on our walk. I use a front hook harness which helps me control the jumping and pulling when he gets so excited and I also try a leave it command. I have had only some success with teaching him to leave it and ignore the other dogs. He loves other dogs but I think his enthusiasm sometimes scares them (and their owners), Choke collars make me nervous, you really have to know what you are doing so you don't hurt your dog. Not sure about the growling, although I know some dogs growl when they play and it's not aggressive, it's just how they play.
  15. Yep mine also loves to bask in the sun on a hot day. After a while he will come in and then find a spot downstairs to cool down. In the winter he loves to plant himself in front of the space heater. They are quirky!
