  1. And we have a winner !!! Thank you once again to all who voted, Emily won her category and the overall prize for the whole competition. As we stated before all prize money and food won will be donated to Husky Rescue South Africa so that hopefully we can help more huskies like Emily in the future. I will be stopping on the way home to buy Emily a big steak for dinner
  2. Hi all Sorry I have been a bit quiet since joining the forum, very busy with work as well as Husky Rescue activities here. Just to let you all know that the results will be announced today at 12 noon South African time (GMT +2) on the website http://www.heroictails.co.za and on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/MontegoClassic?fref=ts Once I hear I will also post here for us all to hopefully celebrate.
  3. Thanks once again for all the support, from a most unexpected source, pity I didn't hear about your forum earlier. Could I just ask that we keep the scores between ourselves on this forum until the official results are announced on 4 August by the organisers. They wanted to hide the scores to make the results a surprise for the official announcement. I am not aware that anyone else realised you could view the scores in the page source. Thanks once again and I look forward to posting lots more about the work we do here in South Africa and give you a more complete story on Emily and the rest of my pack. Ian P.S. Here is Emily sporting a nice warm beanie hat at our sledding session yesterday morning where the temp was around 1deg celsius. Needless to say being a true husky she didn't wear it for long and went off to run again.
  4. Thanks again for all the support everyone, you are all quite right in that ALL the dogs and the humans in the competition deserve to win, not even just the finalists. To be honest I have personally voted for some of the lesser known entries, they deserve the support. My step daughter felt so sorry for them all she voted for every single one We have already decided that if Emily wins the overall competition we would like them to give the prize for the Will of Iron category to Miles, we will discuss this with the organisers once the results are announced. Voting closes at 9am Monday morning South African time (GMT +2) so please keep voting for as long as you can to make sure we don't get pipped at the post. Unfortunately we will have to wait for a bit as the results will only be announced on 4 August. I will create a new post in the next few days with the full story of Emily and post some of the wonderful pics and videos we have of her.
  5. And of course Princess Emily who went from this: with these horrible wounds: to this, in only 3 months.
  6. Queen Tequila who rules the roost. She also loves to lick the foam from a cappuccino cup
  7. Tequila is the serious one, we call her the queen, she is the one who tells the other naughty children off when they get too rowdy. Emily loves to play, she spends hours play fighting with Panda. Although Emily is around 18 months old it seems she is living the puppy life she never had, her mannerisms are very much like a young puppy.
  8. I can't post the link yet but huskyrescue dot coza is the web site. We are mostly based in Johannesburg but do have representatives in Cape Town and we rescue and home dogs nationally.
  9. Panda Bear on the left is the male who is more interested on smelling and marking like most boys. In the middle is Emily our miracle girl. On the right is Tequila who is our alpha female and the lead dog in the pack although at times Emily likes to challenge her a bit. Behind is me trying to keep up. This was taken on 15 June.
  10. Hi all My name is Ian Jones and I live in Johannesburg in sunny South Africa. I adopted my first rescue husky, Panda Bear, in 2012 he is a 4 year old male. I fell in love with the breed and became involved with Husky Rescue South Africa as a volunteer and I am now part of the organising committee In December 2013 I took in another 4 year old girl Tequila who was not getting on with her kennel mate at Husky Haven our rescue kennels. She was originally supposed to be a foster but before long became a foster failure when we adopted her. Being part of Husky Rescue I was involved when Emily was brought in as a stray, I was instrumental in getting a fund raising campaign going to collect money for her vets bills. From the time I met her I knew I wanted to take her home and give her the love and affection that she had never before experienced. When she came home she needed regular medication and treatment of her wounds so I slept with her in the spare room and took several days leave from work to look after her. I will be posting more info on the story of Emily later. I am also on the committee of a local dryland sledding club where we take the dogs sledding in winter and do walks every weekend during the warmer summer months. I look forward to meeting more husky enthusiasts and posting more info on our happy pack.
  11. Ok so I'd better get my post count up so I can show you some more pics.
  12. Ok folks Ian and Emily are here. I must say I am blown away by the support shown for Emily, she has become quite a celebrity here in South Africa among the husky community but I didn't know she was now world famous. I am involved with Husky Rescue South Africa as an organising member and I was the lucky one that got to take Emily home when she was discharged from the vets after 2 weeks. Her progress has been amazing to all concerned and she has the most amazing loving personality especially considering what she has been through. I have 2 other huskies, Panda Bear a 4 year old male, Tequila our alpha female is also 4 years old and now Emily who we estimate to be around 18 months. I just want to thank you all for the amazing support in voting for her and I hope we can keep her in the lead to win the competition. For those that don't know there is a cash prize for the category winners and overall winner and Emily will be donating any prize money to Husky Rescue South Africa to try help all the other homeless huskies we are trying to find homes for. Any other questions about her please ask and I have lots of photos if you would like to see more (some unfortunately quite graphic and horrific).
