Well done Clare for Rescuing this poor girly. You're likely to have more than a few 'Spats' as they get to know each other. At first it may be simple scuffles over toys or water bowls or food, being protective of you as well. Then will be the challenge for dominance this will likely be more serious and prolonged. However they will settle, It took Echo and Darwin 2 1/2 years to become friends.

Not strict historical fiction. But the Time Wars series by Simon Hawke. Sci-Fi but he does quite good research into the time periods that the time commandos get sent into. Bit of a romp but gives you enough to want to look deeper into the actual events that happened.

Bernard cornwell did a couple of Arthurian books. and the awesome Sharpe series. Stephen R Lawhead the Pendragon cycle Just off the top of my head
