Just finished The Transhuman Wager by Zoltan Istvan. . . . interesting ideas and philosophies. Now I'm on Calibans War by James S A Corey (The Expanse book 2) after that I'll be on Abaddons Gate (book 3)

Very good. However another possible interpretation is that Parker was guarding the baby. Unsure of the uncle and his ability to look after the child. and while individually the uncle and parker may get on fine together the dog doesn't trust the Uncle with the child, and so is nervous when the Uncle handles the child.
