  1. Seriously we're a couple of days away from June, which can be counted as summertime. It's been hammerring down with heavy rain all day and it's freezing cold. I'm gonna be cranking up the coal fire soon. Sigh. . . :
  2. When we got Darwin (rescued at 1 year old) we had 3 months of bliss, then Echo decided that almost every day he needed "sorting out" It took nearly 18 months before she really started to leave him alone. If they do get into a spat. Two adults One around the back of each dog. Grab the back legs at the same time and haul apart. Never grab a fighting dog by the collar you will get bitten. Not pleasant. (been there done that ) It's not nice for them to fight but sometimes they do need to learn to respect each others toys and also establish pack order.
  3. Just like human babies when teething will much prefer to nom on your mobile phone ,TV remote, even mums elbows and chins rather than all the teething rings and toys that have been bought for that activity. Puppies are the same, they will find something inapropriate and chew on that instead of all the chewy things you've provided. It's natural
  4. It's not unusual for a dog to "go off their food" for a couple of days. If it goes on into a third day though I would seek a vets advice.
  5. LOL @ You. . . OK you would need to do one of two things with this image. First save the image to your PC, then. . . . 1. Purchase some business card sheets from WHSmith or Rymans or some other office stationary supplier. Then use these to print out the cards. or. . . 2. go to http://www.vistaprint.co.uk/vp/ns/default.aspx?mk=vistaprint&ad=e&crtv=26836488426&psite=mkwid%7chrEk5dhs&GP=5%2f28%2f2013+12%3a00%3a35+PM&GPS=2851138593&GNF=1 and use their website to upload the image to design your own cards for them to print for you.
  6. Al' you've got approx 50% of Stormys posts. . . That would mean you have a "Half-Life" You're either radioactive or you run around with a crowbar.
  7. @ Al Jones Yeah, daves advice sounds good.
  8. This is the one I made for myself. Some peeps got these at camp if they won an award Feel free to copy this and use it for yourself.

    Socialization

If they were leashed then that's a different story. Dogs like most animals have a fight or flight reflex. If they are off lead they'll sniff then wander off, free to do so, and so they stay calm. On leash though, they can't run away from danger, so they can act aggressively towards other dogs, saying "look, I can't run away from you so I'm just warning you off" The other dog is in the same posotion and so a fight kicks off where if they were off lead it wouldn't have happened.
  13. Sarah, Marc, Dunc. . . Can you guys sort ???

    Socialization

Let them play and sort themselves out. Keep and eye out for any real fighting, but Huskies playfight a lot as puppies. It's all part of the socialisation and learning that you are not always top of the pack. If you interfere when they don't seem comfortable then she'll never overcome her shyness.
  15. All mine eat grass and then a bit later throw it up. It's sometimes seen as a way of purging their stomachs. It's quite normal. Nothing to worry about. The only way to stop it is to keep all your grass really short.
  16. LOL worried that someone is gonna take lamb chops away
  17. We have Echo (White GSD) She was a rescue and came with a host of behavioural problems. Shedding, Echo is short haired and doesn't shed anywhere near as much as the Huskies. They are very loyal.and will love you and your family without exception. They will guard you from other people and dogs If you get a puppy and socialise them properly (Echo wasn't ) Then you can minimise this. They can be trained for excellent recall. Yes they need as much exercise as a husky, however you can get around this with ball throws. They love to chase a ball and bring it back for you to throw again. We haven't had any health problems with Echo (fingers crossed) Barking.Echo Barks if someone knocks on the door. on walks she will ignore people as long as they don't talk to us. Other dogs across the street or passing us she will bark and lunge at. (protecting her pack)
  18. This is mine. . . It's interesting to see what other people look at regularly. (click to make bigger)
  19. You'd be surprised how many people get a Husky pup and haven't done any research, assuming that they are just like the Staffy they had as a kid, and then discover the challenges that Huskies bring.
  20. Darn it, gonna rain on your parade again. . sigh. You're going to have to wait until she's at least a year old . . You should''t be letting her do any strenuous exercise until she's at least a year old. The guidelines are 5 minutes of exercise per month of age. (i.e. taking her for an outside walk / to the park etc) So when she's 4 months 20 minutes (or about a mile walk). She'll be getting plenty of exercise at home just running around the house and garden. The reason is that her bones and ligaments are still growing up to a year and although she will enjoy the run with you, you could be doing damage to the bones, joints, and ligaments. However this damage doesn't become apparent until she's older and starts to suffer hip and walking problems many years earlier than you would normally expect. It's worth the wait.
  21. LOL with a husky. . .that'll never happen. It's possible that the breeder gave you kibble that either wasn't very good, the change of location and water etc. or too much different food. We joined the forum over 3 years ago with exactly the same question / Problem. We already had Echo (White GSD) and introduced Daughtry, then six months later rescued Darwin. Huskies are so different to any other dog we've had. A great challenge, but a great joy too.
