  4. Excellent advice Mick, Gary I would never advocate a Husky as a first dog, Whilst they are calm and placid and good natured they are also VERY high maintenance, from the exercising and keeping them entertained side of things. Also I think a lot of people would advise having another dog for company, while the humans in his/her pack are out. They do not like being left alone even for short periods of time and can get incredibly destructive (what Marley did in the movie would just be an appetiser to this breed). Perhaps you would be better served with a Labrador then moving up to an Alsation / German Shepherd before taking on a Husky. Also you wouldn't be able to run with your Husky pup for at least the first YEAR as their bones need to become solid before that level of exercise, as a pup they should be allowed 5 minutes per day per month of age of hearty exercise. Just a few things to consider. . .
  5. Would she say the same thing to some one with an Old English Sheepdog they are furrier than husky's but because they are "English" well they must be used to the weather. . .
  6. The only way dogs of all breeds will get on better is if they are allowed to socialise properly and means letting the dogs interact freely. As long as the owners are close and can step in if it gets too boisterous or domineering.
  7. Glad you've joined the pack. . .welcome.
  8. As Kelly and I have said in the past our estate is overloaded with Chavs and staffs, for most of them their idea of training their dog to obedience is to kick it and punch it in the head for the slightest infraction. Whilst this may teach the dog to fear its owner, it leaves the dog with a lot of pent up aggression (against the owner) which it has to released somewhere, and that's usually someone elses dog. Because they think it is absolutely hilarious and great fun for their dogs to fight they stand back and let it happen. Our first White GSD "Bear" (sadly gone now) was out with me in the park I was throwing the ball and he was doing his best not to let me have it back (lol) A young couple came towards us two very young children in a double buggy and two staffs one on a harness and the on the collar. As soon as they saw Bear they started barking and lunging (no problem coz they are secure) Until the one on the harness snapped the linkage and was on Bear in a Flash. The other one pulled so hard that it unclipped it's collar (you know the clicky in plastic type) and shot forward. So now I'm legging it across the field and these two staffs are on Bear. Bear was Quite a shaggy dog and the Staffs went for his neck, so all they got was mouth fulls of fur but Bear could and did get them around the neck, shook them and threw them away. By the time we both got control of the dogs, Bear was out of breath and the Staffs had gashes in their necks. The owners then went off at me for not having control of Bear . . .!!!???? He was running around and playing. . . It was their aggressive dogs that kicked off and attacked in the first place, If they hadn't attacked Bear he wouldn't have had to defend himself. These people don't want pets, they want fighting machines. I'm glad Kira is ok, it looks like Roxy was just jealous that Kira was getting food, and had probably had to fight other dogs in its original home for food. If you don't fight for it you go hungry.

  16. That is really awful. our back garden is not secure so we don't let the dogs out there they are always in the house or out for "Walkies" with us. And if anyone broke in while we were out. They'd have to deal with Echo. lol good luck with that. . . .
  17. Erm. . .you live in New York. . .haven't you heard of Central Park. . . .thats pretty big, and I've seen dogs running around in movies. . .
  18. Yeah, there is a similar product in the UK and from what I understand it really is the worst kind of scraped off the floor crap thats left over from making all the other low quality dog foods. We tried it once with our first White GSD, "Bear" (sadly gone, sorely missed) and he pushed his bowl away with his nose and wouldn't eat until all the food in his bowl had been replaced. . . and Bear was a dustbin. . . he would eat anything.
  19. What ? . . .what ? ,. . .what. . .

    Husky storeys?

Koda at 16 weeks hasn't shown any aggression to anyone. . .however Echo (our White GSD) can scare the living shit outta people. She is VERY protective of us and Koda
  23. So that'll be approx 6am onwards our time . . . ah that's ok we're going to the suffolk meet that day. . .should be sorted in time for us to upload the piccies in the afternoon.
  24. Tony thats brilliant. . . My teacher always said it doesn't matter how "trained" you are if someone "gets the drop" on you're screwed As long as you can see the situation developing you can prepare and deal. Also too many martial arts require a lot of leg room to be effective. All a yob needs is nutting room. Still every little helps. . .
  25. People. . .please Kelly is not under threat, we're just trying to protect her virgini. . .(oh, shit no that's already gone) . . .erm. . . her. . .erm. .good reputation. . .thats all.. .
