  1. Definitely let use know what the vet says. I believe food allergies can cause that but just in one area is strange. What about a spider bite or something? I would think she would itch/chew at that.?. Whenever they had to be shaved for a procedure or if another dog pulled chunks of their tail out during play it would take forever to grow his hair back.
  2. Do you have pictures? Is it because he chews it? I used Bitter apple spray. For most dogs Apple cider vinegar would deter them from chewing and is great for keeping hot spots from getting infected. (My pups love the taste and would lick each other)🤣 Took my boy a year to grow his tail back
  3. Poor girl. It is so awesome that you rescued her. At her age, coming out of a shelter environment, and not knowing exactly what she went through before that, it is going to take a few. I would just let her do her thing, give lots of love and praise, and keep things calm. It may take her awhile to trust and believe she is finally at home. Be patient with her. Two weeks is no time at all. Maybe starting with basic training will help her gain trust in you and her environment. Always set her up for success. The sooner she trust you the sooner she will warm up.
  4. Nap time after a good run. Waiting for the cat to slide onto the girls head. He’s lucky they like him. LOL
  5. I have had all mine done around 8 weeks. Rescues were done prior to me taking them home. Got my boy done at 4 months and girl at 6 months. Long medical issues with these two is the only reason I had to wait. My boy bounces between 60 and 65 pounds at 18 months. My girl goes between 55 and 60 pounds at 18 months. I have never experienced any medical issues, loss of size, or any other issues. Vets here charge by the weight and come up with every excuse to make you wait. Again, I have not experienced any issues with my personal animals or from any of the patients that I have assisted with over 20 years. I even have friends that are vets and they roll their eyes at some of the miss leading information that it out there. So, I say it is up to you and what you feel is best for your dog. Again, there are plenty of healthy happy well behaved animals that are intact. My personal belief after rotating a day a week euthanizing perfectly good animals just because their time ran out and there was no more room in the shelter..... unless it is a purebred of good bloodlines and you are breeding responsible, there is no reason to have them intact. So, anytime is a good time to get it done. 😁
  6. My girl goes 3x a day and when my boy isn’t having a GI flare up he goes 4x. The only time he skips a poop is when he is about to have a tummy blow out. Then it is nothing but pooping. Can food only diet would cause serious issues with my pups. He could still have a soft blockage. My boy had one and it was caused by leaves 🍁 and hair. LOL Does he strain at all when going? Is it normal color and firmness? What was he being feed before you got him? If his food changed that would cause issues. I would get him checked out. Once a week is not good. Are you sure that is all he is going?
  7. @Kered what a happy Husky❣️ I personally would not use human shampoo. The chemicals in them could cause issues. From the research I did, it states not to. In 18 months mine have only had two baths. I had to use a medical prescription shampoo because they have environmental allergies and were stretching really bad. Other then that I use witch hazel to wipe their legs and paws after a run.
  8. So I am kinda going back and forth with this one. I have heard everything from desexing curing Rabies to it salving ALL behavioral issues.🥴 Good breeding and well cared for animals can have healthy long lives either way. I think it is more how an animal is cared for in its younger years. Running a dog too soon (young) , puppies jumping off of high places, and not having the correct nutrients will cause more of an issue on the joints then desexing them. Them getting cancer is a crapshoot. I believe the chances of an intact male getting testicle cancer is higher (well, if he doesn’t have the equipment then it would be hard to get cancer there LOL) Now I did have to neuter my male “early” because of a nasty behavior. He would ATTACK his sister to mount her and then would attack anyone trying to get him off. All other behavioral issues took training. But I think neutering did help with his ability to not get so nasty which resulted in making training easier. I was not going to breed them so there was no need to keep them intact. None of my dogs ever had any medical issues. All were over 100 lbs so it didn’t stunt their growth, non of them had any joint or hip issues, and lived to be in their mid to late teens. The issues and complications I refer to is... higher chance of dogs getting out (hit by car, breeding unwanted animals) and at times being more aggressive (hormone related aggression). Medical complications from having it done will be do to an incompetent vet doing the procedure. Medical issues as far as joint or behavioral or anything else... I just haven’t witnessed it. The number of dogs coming in with these issues have been 80% intact animals. Which you could argue that most of the 80% are backyard dogs that were never properly cared for. Just like we need to look at pups that were fixed before this 2 year mark and ask: what was their diet like, how old were they when the owners started taking them on long walks or ran them, or what about their breeding. I don’t know. I still think there is not enough evidence to say for sure either way. All I know is my personal experience.
  9. Well I am the odd man out. LOL I have found sooner is best. I spent years spaying and neutering as young as 7 weeks. Even my own personal animals. Never had issues and all of them grew full size and never had hip dysplasia, no cancers, nothing. If anything waiting until after a heat cycle or two is when there can be issues. Heat cycles thickens it. Longer procedure, longer healing time, and the chances of having issues is way higher. Vets charge by weight here. So I truly believe this is to line their pockets and has nothing to do with the betterment of the animal. I have seen more issues with waiting for heat cycles and growth then getting it done as soon possible.
  10. I do not and will have mine off leash. My female would be gone in a second and my boy.... I think he would actually be fine but would never chance it.
  11. My male still does it when he is super excited about something. Not often but still happens. At least he stopped humping everything and he became very sweet
  12. I have never feed senior food. I would suggest Googling best Husky senior food and do some research on the brands.
  13. What treats are you feeding her. Count treats into the daily amount of food. My girl started getting a little chunky. I switched treats to Red bell peppers 1/4 cup a day 1/2 banana sliced and frozen ice cubes if board Frozen yogurt be careful the cold hitting an empty stomach can cause vomiting. If she refuses raw; switch her to a high quality weight management senior food. (I know she isn’t quite ready for senior but it has the least amount of calories)
  14. She is pretty❣️ I think females are harder then males. LOL My female will still pee once in awhile on my bathroom floor at night even when the dog door is open for her. 🤦🏽‍♀️ I would start her house breaking from the very beginning like she was a baby learning it for the first time. As far as attitude.... yep that’s a Husky thing. My male is like that. When he is super mad at me he pees in my tub. 😩🤣. Teach her door control. I make mine set and wait at all doors (front door, crate, car doors, inside and outside) There are some great YouTube videos on how to train this. I would also suggest Place training. I would work on her recall. I use a 20 foot long line. Let them get to the end and then I call them. When they come back to me I have their favorite toy or treat for them. I don’t know what to say about the fence thing. Mine chew the fence and then I smear their poop on it 🤢🤮. It works for mine. I also have three wires 15 inches going around the top of the fence so they cannot jump over. I also go out twice a day and walk the fence line. I have found it best not to chase my girl. I just Leash her brother and take him for a nice calm walk ignoring her and eventually she follows us back home. My girl stays out in the rain but the boy hates it. I am putting a full cover on their dog run so he will go out.
  15. Welcome 1 Get him nurtured ASAP. There are a lot of opinions about when to do this. I have nurtured plenty at very young ages (I would suggest around 7 weeks) and have never seen or heard of any issues. All my personal animals were done male and female at young ages and never once did it effect their health or their growth. I truly believe that this new thing of waiting is so the vets can charge more because the animal weighs more and the vets charge on weight. Plus it is easier to control them after the procedure the younger they are. Do your research and figure out what works best for you. Keeping a male intact just because can and in most cases Causes testicle cancer, behavioral issues, and the animal will have more of a drive to escape (which causes hit by car, injuries from dog fights, increasing the chances of it biting someone, impregnating another dog, never finding your dog again, or it being shot, and a very high ticket 💰💰) Females that are not spayed cause a mess. Can get ovarian cancer, will actually have more health issues. And also a very pricey ticket (twice as much as a males if found running loose) So unless papered and are breeding a very good blood line get him nurtured, there are way to many getting breed and ending up abandon! *Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of very well behaved Unneutered and unspayed dogs that are very healthy and happy* But this being your very first dog, it is best to get it done. Do your research please. 2: You can start now. I do in-house training first (no distractions and they feel safe) until they have it down. Then start all over in a backyard (a little distraction). Once they get that down, move to the front starting at the beginning. Find a special treat that he loves and only give it during training. Start with basic leash. Have him leashed to you while you do your daily routine. Reward when he is by your side and looks at you (that is him checking in and will be very important for when he is older and you start taking him out and about!) Little girl checking in with me on our walk and knows she gets a treat for it. Crate Training: No matter if you want to crate him or not (I highly suggest it because they do get very destructive at times) This is so he does not get stressed out at the vets or if there is an emergency and it is they only way. Little girl loves her transport kennel. (We have to prep for fire season here. So if we get evacuated they have to be transported in these) Waiting for me to open it. Start with feeding all meals in the crate. As he learns to eat in there slowly increase the time after eating by a minute. During the day keep the crate open so he can go in and out on his own. Put the crate in your room at night with door open. Have it covered so it is like a den. Be careful of blankets and stuff because he will most likely eat them. Never use the crate for punishment. Their everyday/feeding crates. Someone doesn’t want to miss out on dinner. LOL In a bedroom if quiet time is needed. Sit, please do not push on his butt or back. Pull slightly up on the leash (not hard) and only use your thumb and pointer figure over the hips and gently guide the butt down. There is a pressure point there and does not require any harsh pressure. You can google this. But I have been able to get Saint Bernards to set quickly with this with no issues or muscle. Leave it, Too many different ways to do this one to type it all out. But if not done correctly you will have a very possessive aggressive dog! Or he will Start swallowing the object you don’t want him to have to keep you from taking it. Very dangerous. I would highly suggest you find another high value treat and say leave it and give him his treat while you take the unwanted object away or lead him away from whatever it is and give him the treat. He is a little young but my boy loved this one and still does.... get a very long line (Huskies can never be off leash) let him get to the end and then call him. Once he gets to you have his favorite toy and play tug. This will help for if he ever gets loose. At his age this really all you need to be working on. 3:Training should only be 5-10 minutes at a time 3 or 4 times a day. My girl could only do the 5 and my boy would do about 12 minutes at this age. ALWAYS end your training while they still want to do more. Walks are 5 minutes per month old. So 15 minutes 3 times a day. Do not make him run it will cause joint damage and mental issues ( excitement and then he won’t pay attention to the leash training ) Walks are about calmness not distance. Take a few steps then turn, take a few steps and make him set. Give treats when he is naturally by your side and looks up at you. 4: Play bitting is normal. Mine were like trying to pet a school of Puranas. LOL As soon as you feel teeth say no bit and move away from him ignoring him for a few minutes. Then try playing again. Then just keep repeating. He will get it and all the other training will help with this too. I think mine were around 7 months before it completely stopped. DO NOT let anyone mouth play with him while you are working on this. At 6 months I did place training, door, crate, car door control training, and tricks. Line training In a store training. Working on set and stay in public Place training while watching TV Place training in office area I have a bunch of videos but can’t seem to get them switched from YouTube. Once I figure it out I will post them. He is gorgeous and good luck.
  16. I use a horse loung line. 20 feet. Any tack store or amazon
  17. If you are positive she doesn’t have a blockage. Cut back the feeding amount. Treats count in this. If feed too much it will cause diarrhea. I just skip dinner and then feed 1/2 amount for breakfast and slowly increase. If stools get loose again then you know how much is too much. *I never found Chicken and rice to work for mine* Well, Turkey and rice. LOL mine are intolerant to chicken. Get a good quality Prebiotic/Probiotics/Enzymes. Really helps with sensitive bellies. Stress, too much food, bad food, table scraps, and food allergies/intolerance will cause diarrhea.
  18. Welcome. The itching and stuff could very well be food or environmental intolerances. Don’t put her in a position to allow others to approach her. She is telling you she doesn’t like it. She may never like being around other people or other dogs. If she is being aggressive towards the boyfriend, dump him. LOL dogs know when someone is good or not. My male is protective of me. My girl could care less. I listen and watch his body language. If he is uncomfortable, everyone and everything stays at a distant. However, when mine are acting like butts to just be a butt, I used Pet Corrector. I think I have only had to 3x. Now I just carry it to keep loose dogs from approaching.
  19. Working on duration training indoors since it is too hot outside to work on recall. There was a quick down pour and I guess Sissy wanted to be close to her brother for protection. 🥰🤣
  20. Sky O’Malley series. Beatrice Small Novels are awesome! The Clan of The Cave Bear by Jean Auel is fantastic! Currently reading The Seat of The Soul by Gary Zukav. My daughter (16) is reading Red Queen series by Aveyard and loves it.
  21. She still hasn’t figured out how to set on the couch right.
  22. Just noticed this as I sat down. 🤯😵. These two HATE each other. I think this is the first time this has ever happened. Normally it is the cat that starts it. She chases my male around the house until his sister comes to the rescue. But I guess there is a truce while it is a 100 degrees.
