  1. In an ideal world they would be trained Caity but in that same ideal world, there wouldn't be any strays or owner surrenders or animal abuse. I'd like to think that, for the most part, city/county shelters have the animal's best interest in mind(It may not always be the case but I'd like to think so anyway ).
  2. If the coat can be brushed out then that's what should be done. A lot of people and city/county shelters don't realize how important a coat is to a Husky. I've only seen a couple of instances where it was necessary to shave a Husky.
  3. I'm personally not a fan of shock collars. I prefer positive reinforcement. There's SO many better ways to train a dog than a stupid shock collar.
  4. My beautiful girl Bella enjoying a relaxing evening at the local park.
  5. Just give him plenty of exercise before leaving him crated and give him time to settle in. Work on leaving him from short to longer periods of time. I THINK it's just him adapting to a new place and with you kind of having a crazy schedule, that probably doesn't help him settle in any quicker. Huskies are smart, though, and he'll learn.
  6. Ashley, thanks for adopting. First, give it some time. Without knowing his story, it's hard to say how many times he's been passed around or how many shelters he's been in. Some dogs adapt really quickly to new homes and some take time. It may just be he's not quite comfortable in his new home with you away. I'm a big fan of a King filled with tasty, healthy treats...maybe even frozen to last longer. I don't like leaving much else when I leave just because they might choke on something. Have you tried leaving him out and just stepping outside for a bit to see what happens? It may turn out he does really well just left out. Just make sure anything edible is placed out of reach. Second, try getting him more exercise before you crate him IF you can. I know you said your schedule is weird with school but it might help.
  7. He's running pain free over the Rainbow Bridge... with all four legs.
  8. Three months ago today I lost my boy Sid to cancer. To this day I can't believe how fast cancer works. At the beginning of this year, Sid started limping pretty bad after what I thought had been a slip on some ice. He limped around for a couple of weeks before I took him back in to get x-rays. Nothing came up. A week or so later, I took a weekend trip to volunteer for a rescue group and left him with my parents. When I came back, I knew something was wrong. I could see a large mass on his right shoulder(seen in the first pic of the video). I took him in to have my vet look at it. X-rays were done and indeed it was a mass that had wrapped around his shoulder and was so intertwined with the muscles and bones there was nothing that could be done but remove the leg. It was pretty crazy how fast it showed itself because just a couple of weeks before nothing had showed up on the x-rays. That was the hardest news to take...at the time. Part of the mass was sent off to be tested. On February 4th, the results came back. It was osteosarcoma or bone cancer. THAT was the hardest news to take. That same day Sid had his leg removed. She felt like she had removed it all. It was SO tough to see my boy with only 3 legs. He was in so much pain and there was nothing that I could do. Sid started recovering and did really well for a 9 year old. He went through a period where he seemed to be doing really well. But just a few short weeks later, he was in a lot of pain again. I ended up taking him in, knowing it wouldn't be good news. The cancer was back in the same location. As the days past, the mass got larger and larger. It was tough watching my boy, who used to be so strong and healthy, decline so quickly. Sid was an amazing husky but against cancer, he didn't stand a chance. On April 9th, just 2 days after his 10th birthday, Sid took his last car ride. He fought so hard and went through it all with a smile on his face. I'll never forget Sid or the 10 years of friendship that he gave me. THANK YOU SID!! This is a vid that I put together showing Sid's trip through cancer. Some of it may be hard to watch but wanted to share with fellow husky owners. I hate cancer and pray nobody else has to go through anything like this.
  9. Here's a few pics of my current pack. I can't believe I'm saying this but Bella is the calm one of the group and for those that know her must think I'm crazy. She goes to bed early and sleeps late ...it's tough trying to keep everyone in line. Maisy is the red/white in the first pics. She's young and has WAY too much energy...she's a tad bit crazy. Roscoe is the black/white and he's just now starting to open up. Both Maisy and Roscoe are fosters. Roscoe was picked as a stray and had tick fever. The pics are of my girl Bella. Love her! She's got LOADS of personality.
  10. I'm really happy he was able to make it to camp in 2011. He loved it. I've been holding on to this song for a few years...was just hoping I didn't have to use it so soon. I've got another vid I'm going to share of the last part of his journey in life. There's so much I miss about him. I miss coming home to him and seeing those beautiful brown eyes. I miss just sitting with him and loving on him(he had a beautiful coat!). And I REALLY miss our weekend walks together...NOTHING better than that. It's still really hard to watch my videos of him on You Tube. My boy is gone.
  11. Thanks Dave. Life is short...I only had him for 10 short years. Sid definitely lives on, not a day goes by that I don't think about him.
  12. Sid, Bella and Levi(Previous Foster) on our family vacation.
  13. Nothing came up Becky? That's weird. I wonder if it was because she went straight from Denise to you.
