  1. Got some pictures of my new pup. Her name is Kyra.
  2. Thanks Sarah. I've heard of dog repellent spray where you spray an area and the dog won't go near the area. Does that stuff really work?
  3. well, no one handed her over and was found on the street. There isn't much information about her because of that but she's getting all her shots and vaccines. I will get the info about what they were feeding her while at the shelter, but if i am correct it's probably not the best stuff for her because the shelter gets alot of food donations and they are not always the same food. Also we plan on feeding her dry dog food. Thanks for the info though.
  4. Hi everyone, It's great to meet everyone, and man am I glad I found this site. Me and my family are adopting a 2yr old red and white siberian husky from our local animal shelter. So I decided to do some research. When I found out that our new family member might be able to jump our stone wall I went online to find ways that would keep her in our backyard. And that's how I found this site. We haven't gotten our new little furry family member, but we will in about a week. Altough we are still deciding a name for her because we all want to try and name her and there's five of us. A little about me and my family Well my name is Lauren, I am 18 and live with my parents when I'm home in Southern California. I am going to be a sophmore in college. The college I go to is in an isolated area of Wisconsin, 2 hours away from Milwakee. My brother is 25 yrs old, and just finished his last year in college at a small isolated school as well but in West Virgina. Right now he is in an intership project in New York, so trying to communicate with him for a name for our husky is difficult. lol. My dad is 65 yrs old and has 2 jobs. My mom Debbie, is 60 and takes care of my grandmother who is now living with us and has been since late January. My grandmother is 85 yrs old and does have some problems with mobility but loves to have a dog around to be able to talk to or pet, or just have around. Since I've been born we had 2 dogs but both had passed away. We had a golden retriever, german shepered, and a 'coyote?' mix. We had to put her down The day of or after New Years of 2009. And our other dog was a black labrador, 'damlation?' mix. She had died from a heartache/stroke around Novemeber of 2010 when I was away at college. We had both dogs for 15 years. My parents had several dogs which they had grown up with and also before me and my brother were born. Um that's all I can think of at the moment lol. If anyone has a suggest for how to entertain our new furry friend, other than anything that has to do with snow because it doesn't snow here in Southern California where I live. And I live in an semi heavily populated city with around 50,000 people in just my city and with many other cities around. Thanks for any suggestions. There should be a file uploaded but I'm not sure if it did.
  5. Hey Chewbacca_&_me, I will be getting a 2yr old husky mix from our local animal shelter. They said that she came in as a stray so we are I am assuming she has had no previous training. We are planing on having her mostly in the backyard but plan on allowing her to come indoors when we give her permission. Are the ways that you have suggested be the best way to train her (leash training)?
  6. @ husky princess: she does take more characteristics of a husky so i will make sure i don't underestimate her. and thanks for the type of mesh i might need. i was thinking mesh but just assumed that she might be able to bite through it. so welmesh is strong? @jessica: thanks. i was thinking about it but wasnt sure about the lumber. for the pool i was looking at fences and saw this website for the fence. http://www.allsafepool.com/pool-fences/?gclid=CLbhsZLRsqkCFcYbQgodGmpGMQ would this be ideal or would it be easy for a husky to move or get through it?
  7. Okay. That's what I was expecting as much to do. Any suggestions on how to make the walls higher? Rebuilding the wall is out of the question but would adding a fence or something like a fence ontop of the stone wall be a good alternative to make sure the height of the wall will be hard for the husky to escape? For a fence for the built in pool, how high should i buy the fence. Because the pool itself is only about 4 feet deep, and it's not very big either. I can swim from one side to the other and back in 1 breadth.
  8. So I am adopting a 2yr old siberian husky mix (not sure what the mix is though) from our local animal shelter. I will put up a picture of her soon. I won't be getting her for about a week because she will be getting her shots and will be speyered but we are waiting for an appointment. So I want to husky proof my backyard. We do have planters and some have a 2 foot fence if i am correct but we don't want her digging up the plants because we have a pool built in. Also should I be putting a fence around the built in pool??? Our walls that surround the yard is made of brick and is about 6 feet high, but if she gets to the area where the planters are its about 4 feet i beileve. Is there something I can add onto our stone wall? (mind you I do have neighbors.) We have a table in the backyard as well which is kind of close to the wall. Will our husky want to jump ontop of the table? The last thing at the moment is that we have iron rod gates that are about 6 feet as well but I am not sure if our new husky will be able to squeeze herself inbetween the iron rods, because our other dog (a german shepered, golden retriver, coyote like mix, and was on the slim side) was able to squeeze in between them and had practically dislocated her femur. obviously she didn't try again but we don't want that to happen to our husky as well. Should I add anything ontop of the iron rod gate as well.
