  1. Honestly I could just clip the carabiner around the middle of the X...might try that tomorrow.
  2. It only bunches up when I slow down (aka taking pics). I'm not coordinated enough to pedal and pic at the same time!
  3. Our Springer just arrived 4 days ago and we've been having a blast using it! We've been doing 2.5 miles per day, and even though it was raining and cold I toughed it out, Denali didn't seem to mind...
  4. My suggestion is keep them safely on lead or enclosed in a well built fenced area. It's not worth the risk of losing your companion forever or worse.
  5. 1. What's good cheap food beside TOTW? Cost and quality are directly related, so no premium food is really going to be super cheap. TOTW, Merrick, Blue Buffalo, Wellness are all good foods that won't break the bank. Plus premium foods require less quantity to feed so you go through less food and that saves you money For 9 dogs on TOTW its about a bag per week. 2. After going potty, do I play with the pup or bring it in then later play time? (Heard if you play with pup afterwords it means going outside is playtime, not potty?) Be excited right after the event (potty) and some immediate reward play, if you wait they will not associate the play with the success in the yard. 3. Which harness and lead is good and will last for a long time? What will you be wanting from your harness? Is this just for walking, because by nature harnesses will encourage the Siberian's natural pull drive. Unless it's a walk easy harness (which I never really liked) I use martingale collars (limited slip) and a standard webbing lead to walk mine. They last years unless you have a dog that will chew the collar off others. 4. Good cheap dog treats? Make your own! String cheese works great, boiled chicken is always a hit, you can bake chicken into jerky....all really natural and simple! 5. How old should I get their first shots and which ones? At 8 weeks they should have had at minimum their first round, then update at 11-12 weeks, again 15-16 weeks. Worm on same schedule
  6. It's not uncommon for a light splash above the nose, check the lips they should be black with no breaks in the color, nose of solid color or seasonal snow nose, pads should be dark in color, nail color those kind of things
  7. Yeah I've never heard of it called a "pinto" coat...more commonly referred to as a splash coat.
  8. That nose in the pic is obviously lacking in pigment, a snow nose usually isn't so pronounced and widespread. It really would be a judges decision, some AB judges will dump snow noses because they aren't aware it is an acceptable trait...that thankfully doesn't seem to happen very often. The real concern is not for the ring, it's for the health and overall well being of the breed. If pigment problems lead to things like HFD that is a real concern.
  9. A dog box for my truck....
  10. I'm 100% with ya on this one! Where is the sun already!?!? I have a dog yard and kennels to reconstruct this spring/summer!! Plus I have work in the garden I want to do and rebuild the horse coral....maybe it's my fault the sun is hiding I have too much stacked on my plate at the moment! Hope you get the weather you're needing to get your fence painted
  11. Well let me tell you my red girl was a complete hellion compared to my black and white boy! She sure showed him a thing or two about being a 'true' husky! But honestly it's more about the individual personality and the socialization in their formidable stages of life than what color they were born....Yes Malamutes are very different than Siberians, outside of the fact they are both coated working breeds...Tell your friend to do some research on the breeds to really understand.
  12. Snow nose and poor pigment/permanent pigment issues are very different. Many people confuse the two as they just don't know the difference. This dog's nose always looks like this, no change between summer and winter. This is a loss of pigment not snow nose, you can see the problem extends into the lips a bit as well. This would be a problem in the ring, unlike true snow nose which is acceptable. I'd wonder if this dog doesn't have pink pads too. The loss of pigment is causing major issues within the breed as many are just starting to find. Sad really, which is why we need to get color and pigment back into the breed.
  13. I wanted to share this one of my Denali's sister Kauzmo who took Breed and a Group 3 just last month. Honestly one of the most beautiful pics I have seen in a very long time, very balanced.
  14. Yes permanent snow nose is not preferred as that is a pigmentation fault not a natural progression of seasonal changes. I will see if I can dig up the conversation on poor pigment contributing to HFD, like I said it's all really coming to light what it is and what's causing it. We need to bring color and pigment back into our breed before it's too late.
  15. I do front and back engraved dog tags. The front is just their call name the reverse is our home address and my cell number.
  16. There has recently come to light that not necessarily the common snow nose, but snow nose in conjunction with lack of pigment of the lips and paws (commonly seen as the lines are going more and more dilute) are starting to see a disease called HAIR FOLLICLE DYSTROPHY. These dogs end up losing all of their coat, guard hair included, some studies have shown spay/neuter of the affected animal has produced some success in hair regrowth. before and after-
  17. No Problem I'm new to the sport and still learning myself!
  18. Thank you all!! How it works is there are weight brackets, your dog gets weighed in the day of the event and placed in whatever bracket they weigh into and will compete in with other dogs in that weight category. There is a starting weight for each category and weight increments decided upon at the handlers meeting prior to the pull event. Each dog can either pull each round or pass up to twice in a row. You can't touch or bait your dog before he crosses the finish line, 16 feet from the starting line. He has 1 min to pull the cart to the finish line.
  19. Thank you all! It was quite an epic weekend! So many wonderful dogs doing something they loved to do and so many wonderful people! Many of these dogs had amazing stories, like the dogue de bordeaux who was rescued from an abusive home nearly starved to death, look at him now! He sure lives up to his name Prince Mufasa! His owner/handler is an amazing little lady as well! As for the snow, they actually had 13yards delivered from our slightly higher elevation ski hill Mt Spokane, we still have snow on the ground in our high spots! It did want to melt on us quickly though!
  20. I had to laugh at one of the Mals, he stopped to dig in the snow then remembered he had work to do
