  6. Ok, remember two things: 1) He's a puppy, like children it takes time for them to understand the boundaries...and Siberians are unruly children that will constantly try to find out how far they can bend the rules especially if they don't really respect or see you as the pack provider. 2) you haven't had your puppy very long (didn't you say 4 days?)! They don't know the rules straight out of the box, they won't learn them in a matter of hours either, this is why puppy training classes aren't a one day and done thing! Be patient, be consistent, and don't forget to have fun too. If you can make training fun they are more likely to retain the training. As soon as your pup has his full rounds of vaccinations I would highly recommend a reputable training program for both you and your pup.
  7. I agree it is easier to introduce puppies to the cats, the earlier you can set the boundaries the better the chances of a successful outcome. Mine all thought the cats were odd play things when they got home, quickly realizing they were not they became part of their odd pack...that does not mean your neighbors cats are safe if they wander into your Husky's yard though! My dogs have "their" cats, other cats are fair game if they could get to them. And as Suka mentions, genetics play a part in it all, some husky's have higher prey dive than others so just be sure to know what you are going into from the start. It doesn't hurt to ask the breeder about the parent's prey drive tendencies.
  8. Mine is only a 5' fence, and THANKFULLY have not had an over or under situation. I am hoping to increase the height of my fence this year to 8'. We'll see what happens.
  9. Keep in mind those same "stupid people" also put Siberian Husky puppies on the market AS wolfdogs when they are as wolfdog as the neighbors Chihuahua. If it helps them sell fast or for more money don't put it past someone to call an orange an apple if they have no ethics. I cannot tell you how many "High Content Wolfhybrids" I have rescued over the years that were just poorly socialized and poorly bred Siberians. It makes me very angry because it does nothing to help the reputation of the Siberian Husky breed, and ill-educates people on the true nature of Wolfdogs. As for the situation, my Denali used to do the same thing. He's a very "Alpha" personality just like his poppa and grandpop, it took time and consistency as well as persistent training to get him to stop....even now he'll sometimes forget but a quick verbal reminder brings him back in line. Hang in there, as you say you have only had him for a few days, it's going to take more than 4-5 days for him to understand you as a pack leader and what your rules are, especially if there is any laps in consistency.
  10. It's most likely the diet. Ol'Roy is complete trash food and is probably causing GI upset. Siberians are known for sensitive tummies and poor diet only makes it worse. Get him on a premium diet and I would bet the problem stops.
  11. We have a trail we frequent that is a loop with no bins....I have been guilty of bagging and leaving until my return trip then I put the bag in the bed of my truck and properly dispose of the item upon returning home.
  12. Calm down, your very typical coloring blue eyed puppy is not a wolf hybrid. Nothing about this puppy says wolf-cross, so relax. As an owner of 3 hybrids I can assure you this. Huskies are very exuberant and all puppies bite and they do require a set schedule and consistent training.
  13. One of the things I love the most about this forum is the fact we can all discuss things and appear to be "troll" free. One thing I do get a tad opinionated about is 'hobby' breeders. But I keep myself in check for the most part
  14. Thanks for creating such a fun awesome website for all of us Husky people to gravitate to I wouldn't feel like my day was quite right without at least one check in here
  15. I like where we live right now, but I don't love it. Our new neighbors are terrible people, one has threatened to kill my dogs if they ever came onto his property for no other reason than he hates dogs. I wish the job market for my husband's sake was better here, he's one of the no longer counted unemployed statistics...if things were any better/feasible I'd move back to Montana...but it just costs more to live there and my job would suffer for it.
  16. Big Bang Theory Kitchen Nightmares NCIS Hawaii 5-0
  17. Bagel with Lox is a plain bagel toasted, cream cheese, cold smoked salmon (Lox), thin red onion slices, tomato (if you aren't allergic to them like me!), and capers. So amazing
  18. We'll just chalk it up to too many to memorize Pic Left to right: Diamond, Tikaani (Agouti color), Aspen (grey aussie), Denali (above pot o gold), Juneau (below), Riley (upper), Rockie (lower), Dakota (b&w sibe), and lastly Timber.
  19. Mmm cheesy scrambled eggs, with elk steak (or bacon), nice cup of coffee...makes me hungry! Second only to a good bagel with Lox. *tummy growl*
  20. Happy St. Patrick's Day from my whole gang!
  21. At 10 weeks old I'd assume that would be too cold for the little tyke. Puppies don't regulate their body temps as well as adults do...and a valid point is made that someone could easily steal him or he could easily chew through his tie out and be gone....I'd start crate training, don't just shut him in the crate help him associate the crate with safe positive feelings (I did this by feeding mine in the crate). He will miss you while you are gone so don't be surprised if he does cry and howl...
  22. Obesity leads to so many other issues, I am not for it in my dogs (I can't speak for myself but hey I know I'm a work in progress!). I know my dogs swing with their weight based on time of year, when they start getting heavy I cut them back 1/2-1cup when they start going the other way back up. It depends on our activity level as well...but the extreme obese Huskies and malamutes I often wonder if they have been checked for thyroid function, because that often leads to really heavy dogs quickly.
