  1. Not sure, just sharing an experience I had. When you have (then) 8 dogs that hadn't had previous snow nose suddenly develop pigment changes and not just in the traditional snow nose fashion you start to wonder the cause. The only change had been plastic buckets for watering vs their ceramic indoor bowl. Our vet suggested this theory, tested it by taking away the plastic and problem solved and has not re-occurred.
  2. Well comparing the two materials stainless is the most sanitary of readily available product. Appearance wasn't so much the issue as it bothered me that something from their water bowls was changing the color of their nose...I was not comfortable with that thought.
  3. That's what I use now, stainless is very sanitary and easy to clean besides. Not one issue with nose discoloration since.
  4. According to people much smarter than I am it is because plastic is porous and it allows microscopic bacteria/algae to grow no matter how much you wash them...through use it gets into the pores of the nose and it changes the coloring. I was skeptical but after I quit using the plastic bowls the noses all went back to black.
  5. Usually the nose will develop a lighter to pink stripe down the mid of the nose as the season changes. I had one case where the noses changed out of season and became a lot pinker...it turned out it was due to using plastic water bowls.
  6. "How much wolf is he?" "Oh they're just babies then?" "What kind of husky is that?" "Huskies are only black with blue eyes" "All dogs with blue eyes are blind :(" "Is he neutered? I have a girl at home, we should breed them!" Oh the list could go on and ON!
  7. Dakota would bark his face off, Juneau would hide, Diamond would kiss them while I was in danger, Tikaani would be under foot asking for belly rubs, Denali would be screaming, Timber and Rockie hands down would protect me to their last breaths, Riley and Aspen would be cowering in their kennels...LOL
  8. The Sirens are sounding in Nome! Mushers are in sight!
  9. I does sound like she is not fully in season, she needs to be in standing heat before she will really be receptive...and even then some are not. But I do have to ask again are both parents KC registered and have their full health clearances? Are these dogs a good match to be bred? Or are they just boy and girl Siberians. Lack of care in breeding can produce many problems in the line. We must take care to preserve the breed that we all love so much.
  10. Aww Poor mal You shouldn't shave nordic breeds, what were they thinking!?!
  11. When my little girl Juneau went into heat for the first time she went off her food too...she seemed to be her normal, happy self just not into her food. She was also very clingy and her separation anxiety ramped up again....the off the food for us only lasted a couple of days..
  12. Leather seats help...but usually towels and the seats in the back folded down for them to lounge on.
  13. Blue Merle Tri Australian Shepherd all the way!
  14. Welcome to the pack!
  15. WOW! Congrats! Can't wait to see pics and hear all about the new addition
  16. I find it completely believable...I've treated a perfectly stable pt with 11 GSW in him, and another with the knife still in the chest. Not saying it's not totally bazaar but it happens more often than people would ever imagine.
  17. I had a picky boy who we've had problems keeping weight on. We were given this recipe for Satinballs it worked really well for us! There are a bunch of varieties on the recipe you can find online. 5 pounds ground meat 5 cups Total whole grain cereal 5 cups oats (slow cooking type) 2½ cups raw wheat germ ¾ cup oil ¾ cup molasses 6 egg yolks 5 packets gelatin (non-flavored) 2 ½ tablespoons Solid Gold Seameal supplement Mix up, form balls, freeze, feed as treats or food supplement . Mix all ingredients together thoroughly like you would a meatloaf. Roll into balls no larger than 1 inch diameter. Divide into at least 6 separate containers or bags. Freeze. Thaw as needed for feeding. Satin Balls are a supplement to a regular diet designed to add weight to under weight dogs. Satin Balls are NOT a full spectrum diet in and of themselves.
  18. I've done Skijoring with a couple of mine, you are right WHAT A RUSH!! I got a sled this year, and wouldn't you know it was the absolute worst winter ever....no snow that stuck around for more than a day Oh well there is always next year and scootering until then!
  19. I'm going to add my dogs Hope it's cool to add them all in one post Rockie (left) and Timber (right) playing peek a boo Silly Juneau Smiling That's the spot Dakota All Smiles Tikaani Denali MONSTER stomp Startled Diamond
  20. If there was no longer any quality to the life they are living then I believe it's time to let them go...When they can no longer enjoy the life they are living and there are no options for improving the situation other than perhaps keeping them so medicated/coma induced then what is the point of stretching it out? Though I have not been put in this situation yet I hope I will be able to recognize when they tell me they are ready.
  21. Retarded PeTA members and their 'ideas' of how people should be with animals...I don't think laughing is something I'd be doing had that been me.
