  1. Have Bodi checked for a Urinary Tract Infection...many times this smells like an in heat girl and gets the boys all sorts of excited. Had that happen to my oldest male a few years ago...some simple anti-biotics and problem solved, no more confusion in the kennel
  2. You know I had heard something similar once, for the life of me I couldn't remember where...I had talked to my breeder/mentor about it when we got Denali and she said as long as it was without load and not too exerting it was fine, more than fine, it would be good for us. After all we aren't going to stop them from running and playing like puppies will do any way right
  3. Reading your story breaks my heart I am so sad you had to go through this! I'm glad things worked out for Oakley in the end but wow I wouldn't even have the slightest idea how I would have handled anything like that! Thank God my husband's family has been in dogs for a long time and "get it". Are you doing ok?
  4. Running your puppy without weight or a load (pulling) isn't a bad thing, let your puppy set the pace and watch your puppy carefully...end the run far before she tires out. In the warm weather this will be extremely important, she will tire faster and it can be more dangerous.
  5. I grew up watching my neighbor's sled team...thinking NO WAY would I EVER want one of these wound up, energetic, crazy acting, woo-wooing dogs...then I met my husband, a Siberian Husky was all he ever wanted after we started discussing getting a puppy together. I didn't know much about the breed, he even less....luckily our first (Dakota) was more of an "anti-husky" so he broke us in easy...however our second made us realize how little we knew and how lucky we were...I immediately started researching (behind the 8 ball, but better late than never), joined a local dog group, found a breed mentor, and settled in for the learning experience...I wouldn't trade ANY of it for ANYTHING! I love my furry kids and everything they have brought to my life However, being in rescue, I have seen the side of it that the dog suffers because the human refuses to learn and blames the dog for the human shortcomings...let me tell you it's my least favorite part of the "job" sometimes....but I don't do it for the human, I do it for the dog. Sometimes I have to remember that.
  6. It's so true! Especially around my house!!! My instructor asked me the other day if my dog was shedding because I was "covered with dog hair"...I looked and there was a couple pieces, so I said "where? If you think this is bad just wait until they start blowing coat!"
  7. Oh I love that picture too! Saw it circulating around Facebook about a month ago, makes me melt
  8. That is so very true! No matter how bad my day has been my kiddos always make me smile when I'm down
  9. !!!!!!! Looking forward to many pics and posts
  10. Perhaps to the lay person you might have a point...but having both Siberian Huskies and Wolf dogs I can tell you they are worlds apart in how they look and how they act. I have only had one person react toward one of my Siberian Husky girls as they were "wolf", but many who ask when I'm out with my Siberians if they are wolves. I politely just say "No, they are Siberian Huskies" end of discussion unless they inquire more. Siberian Husky: Wolf Dog:
  11. I like using my belt when I take my kids out...it frees up my hands to take pictures of the neat things we see while we are out, and like sutsibe I find it much easier on my body when I get a sudden yank on that line being around my waist than when it was in my hands trying to dislocate my shoulder (my big guy is 130lbs of muscle...that used to hurt a LOT!). I feel like I have more control over them even being on a set length line than the flexi-lead ever had, but it's a matter of personal opinion there
  12. There is some absolutely wonderful advise already here (wish I had had this when I was a new Siberian owner!), but my add would be research positive and reputable training programs. Structured classes not only help your dog learn, but teach you how to best teach your dog (and perhaps if you take your significant other get some consistency), as well as good socialization time! It's always good to see how well you are doing when there are all those distracting other puppies to potentially play with!
  13. There are some fantastic "point and click" type cameras on the market these days! I used to get some great shots with just a simple Nikon CoolPix camera
  14. Thank you! I use a Nikon D300 DSLR with a Sigma 2.7f 70-200mm lens
  15. I've never even heard of Prize Choice, not sure if it's even offered over here. I feed my pack Wellness Core with great results. Had some problem eaters in the past, no more!
  16. Great pics!! Looks like a lot of fun
  17. All of mine changed in various ways, Juneau didn't change color so much as lose her mask, Dakota the same...but my most recent Denali has had the most dramatic change: At 6 weeks: 14 weeks: 14 months (today):
  18. Its not much and it's not going to last....but the kids are enjoying it while it lasts! Denali chases after Aspen Diamond joins in the action Flying Siberian! The Race is On! My pretty girl Juneau Denali zoomin, Juneau in the background Timber Gets his run on
  19. That's awesome! I wish we would run into more Nordic dogs on our outings I'm looking to find a working dogs club in my area
  20. Words cannot express....Some people are such IDIOTS!
  21. Aspen and Denali rough housing Juneau in hot pursuit of Aspen Denali chews on Diamond while Aspen plays Referee Chase time! Timber at Rest Dakota "not" sleeping Denali's Zoomies
  22. We've never used puppy food, originally we were feeding Merrick until my oldest boy was found to be peeing blood...after testing it was found the food made his urine too basic and filled his bladder/urethra up with crystals....we switched to Wellness Core (not just Wellness but made by the same company) and haven't had an issue since. We feed our Siberians 1.5-2 cups daily, my bigger boys get 3 cups (Rockie is 130lbs and maintaining very well). I have to say I'm pleased with the food and the results.
