  1. So an update- we are deeming the phone stolen. Insurance has been contacted, police report filed. This is actually a Class C Felony, 2nd degree theft since the phone value to replace outright is $750 plus the $80 case that it had on it at the time. If the person who took my phone is found they could be looking at 5yrs and up to $10,000 fine, not to mention obviously immediate dismissal from here. Head is spinning and feel so lost without it.
  2. We've had the Find My Phone enabled forever, my husband is a planner...I always thought it was kinda stupid. Then he lost his phone at a dog show- He did the same thing we tracked it through my phone, had it notifying on the screen to call my phone if found, and setting off tones. Luckily someone had found it and returned it to the Show Steward's table, we found it easily enough. One of my Lt's put it out in our Daily email update that my phone was lost to be on the lookout. It was right after the email one of our guys found my case in the ditch destroyed. I have a feeling that offering a return without penalty may just prompt whoever has the sticky fingers to dispose of the phone if they haven't already.
  3. I have a feeling that IF we find out who has the sticky fingers, they will be losing their position at the fire station and I wouldn't put it past our Chief to press charges to set an example. I can't wait to hear back from the Chief on the matter, he gets back tomorrow.
  4. I do have the find my iPhone feature enabled on mine. So far the phone has not been turned back on since that night. I'm watching it though that is for sure! I have it set to notify that the phone is lost/stolen on the screen and to erase when it connects to internet again. Even my Captain is perplexed, at this point all they stole was a glorified iPod. I saw what was left of my case, it was not pretty.
  5. We do not have security cameras within the fire station, and certainly none in the bathroom where I changed out of my duty clothes into my turnouts. The Chief has been notified by email since he is at a fire conference out of town, and my Captain and I talked today as well. We're all perplexed, this kind of stuff may happen within the general public but we supposed to be a brotherhood/sisterhood. Our very lives depend on being able to rely and trust each other.
  6. I am soooo steamed tonight it's not even funny! Last night while responding to a fatality car accident, someone back at the station decided to help themselves to my pockets. My iPhone, gone. How can this be? Could one of my co-workers really do this? My LifeProof case was found this morning in the ditch near the station completely demolished, but no sign of the phone itself. For those who are familiar with this case you know it's not one the phone would just fall out of. So it's become very clear to me that the phone was removed prior to the case being tossed. I am so discouraged, the station is supposed to be safe for us to leave our stuff in the time of a call, but also these men/women are people I'm supposed to be able to trust to have my back in the worst of the worst, how am I supposed to trust someone that is willing to steal from me?
  7. My kennel has a variety of needs, about half are working dogs, half are 'retired' pets, most of my working dogs are also dogs that I show. The entire kennel is on TOTW as I find that it meets the demands of my working team, keeps the skin and coats top notch for the show dogs, and not too hot for the more sedentary retired kids. I do start my puppies out on TOTW which I find was less hot than many other foods which caused frequent bouts of diarrhea, but caloricaly fulfilling to meet the growth demands of a young Siberian. Just my 2cents
  8. I love our new Ruffwear packs! The quality is like no other pack I've seen, we got the Approach pack and look forward to being out on the trails this spring/summer!

    Smell?

Yeah they don't always drag their butts when the sacs need expressing. I'd start there-

    Smell?

My first thought would be anal sacs need expressing, second would be excessive gas depending on diet-
  11. Check motorcycle shops, usually most carts use dirt bike tires-
  12. I'm not sure we'll be headed to Canada, but we did qualify In order to earn their base Working Dog Title they have to pull 12x's their weight (wheeled card) at 4 separate pull events. Unless it is a snow pull then it's only 5x's their body weight. We competed with a wheeled cart and Dakota pulled 830lbs! Let me tell you of everything we do with our dogs, working is definitely the most fun aspect of the breed
  13. Well Dakota and Denali both qualified for the National IWPA weight pull competition in Canada this year. Dakota got his first leg toward his Working Dog Title, Denali may have if I hadn't disqualified him by calling him before I was behind the line. Dakota took 3rd in the 60lb weight class and Denali took 4th both days. Overall good weekend! We have another one coming up, hoping to get Dakota one leg closer to his title and get a leg on Denali maybe as well
  14. Our Diamond was born deaf- or so we'd assume as at 9mos when she found herself in rescue she was already deaf- you'd hardly know it outside of the loud noises don't startle her. We use a lot of body language and hand signals to communicate with her and it has been working well. A wave toward us means come, point out away from us means go potty, etc.

    Dog Food

Mine get the same food day in day out. This way I know they are getting the required protein/fat they need as working dogs.
  16. She's got nice stop, nice top line, good angles, her biggest fault I see is her eyes appear a bit too round. Beyond that she just needs some more time to mature and develop. Who's she out of?
  17. The best husky eyes have nothing to do with color....but those that test clear and negative for hereditary disease such as Corneal Dystrophy and Juvenile Cataracts.
  18. I crate train all of my dogs, I feel its a valuable tool and something that they should know as a positive thing. We train many people on the importance of crating in the event of natural disasters it's one of the easiest things to get a scared animal out in. My show dogs have to know that the crate is a good space since they do spend a lot of time in them on the road and at shows. So if it works for you, that is great don't try to change it because one person's opinion. I have had Siberians that no matter what were massively destructive and had to be crated when not observed. As for the sled trainers, how do you think they transport 45+ dogs, a dog truck is nothing more than a series of stacked constructed crates lol. But most sled dogs live on chain tie outs near their houses, not in the mushers house. There are many that do rotating house schedules like we do for our multi-dog home.
  19. All of my adults are on once a day feeding- No one really goes through phases of not wanting to eat. As far as why we feed puppies multiple times per day vs. adults singular times per day, it is a combination of needing calories but having a little tummy. Growing takes a lot of calories, but it's far too much to fit into their tummies in a singular feeding....as the puppy grows, so does the tummy more food can fit into. Growing does slow and eventually stop which turns more into maintenance calories vs growing calories.
  20. How else do you get experience with the breed though? I have rescued many that may look like the breed, but truly don't act like or reflect the health or functionality of the breed. Rescue is a great option if that's what you want to do, don't get me wrong. I will always suggest rescue for companion animals first, and if that is just not the route you want to go suggest responsible breeders that take care in producing healthy quality puppies. You should always feel deserving of getting what you pay for IMO. You wouldn't pay the price of a new BMW and settle for a used Honda, so why pay the same or more than you would for a health tested quality puppy for a puppy that comes from unproven lines, non-health tested lines.
  21. Buying a pet is certainly different than buying for purpose or function. I'd never discount a deformity unless it was dangerous to the health or well being of the animal or if it was being used for further gain of the breeder that produced it. What many people don't understand is though a curly tail might be 'cute' it goes against the actual breed standard. A tail that curls tightly or 'snaps' back over the back or body actually indicates a bad rear end. A bad rear is detrimental to the functionality of the breed. Does it mean the dog can't be a quality pet? No, so hopefully no one will misconstrue what I've said. Some of my best companions have been rescues, puppy mill products, BYB dogs, etc. Though they are nothing more than pets that I love, most of them aren't able to do the job the breed was designed to do. When you are paying large amounts of your hard earned money you deserve to be getting what you've paid for. Not just padding the pockets of irresponsible breeders. I believe that you deserve a healthy happy puppy that is bred for breed type, function, personality, etc. It's not fair to anyone to purchase a pup that spends more time at the vet, or on medications, or whatever because the breeder was just looking to make a quick buck.
  22. You are right that Registered does not equate to quality. You as a potential buyer have to do a bit more research to get quality pups. But just because you do or don't do the required research into your breeder does not discount the registry IMO. If you find a breeder that has for generations health tested their parent lines then there is a higher guarantee you will be getting a healthy pup, vs having a singular breeding pair from line the breeder knows nothing about, they may have done nothing to prove quality on, but did health testing though the parent lines had not been tested you get no such guarantee. Is that the fault of the registry? Not IMO-
  23. When we got our first Siberians we wondered how worth it it would be to register them. Both were spayed/neutered so there was no show or breeding potential, what was the point. It wasn't a big deal, and it wasn't hard to register them once we decided to do it. The papers basically sat in a file folder in our file cabinet for years. Now we have younger Siberians of quality breeding that we registered and now show, and then started running the Siberians on a sled team including our older dogs and because they are registered purebreds we are able to compete in the purebred class races. Never in a million years when I got Dakota and Juneau could I have imagined this is where we'd be so it has proven to be worth it. As for the kennel name, the name is who bred the dog and if you intend to start your own line your kennel name follows the Reg'd name so in example my girl Kenna is: Galena Creek's Born Of Fire At Keahi She is bred by Galena Creek, but is owned by me at Keahi Siberians-
  24. we have a Juneau too We call her Juneau Bean because she reminded me of a red/white bean the first time we met here LOL
