  1. I have gotten the usual: where your sled? (its in the garage) Are they wolves? (yes, yes they are because here in CA its absolutely legal to raise wolves in your household:confused:) Also gotten an offer that absolutely angered me: (2 young men idiots really wanted to pool their money to try to purchase my dogs because they looked cool when they were walking off leash next to me.) And the most epic one yet I have heard from my neighbor who constantly like to remind people to call him "Dr." cause he has a PHD in electrical engineering was this: I did not know coyotes comes in black and white?
  2. I have recently visited Wisconsin on a business trip and I am saddened by the fact that Wisconsin legislation has allowed the hunting of wolves. http://news.yahoo.com/video/wisconsin-hunters-chance-wolf-161559760.html I have heard from my client tout this legislation as a proper way to keep wolves in check and ensure the safety and civility of their town. I am by no means an wolf expert, however being from the "hippie" state of the west I was told that I probably watch too many animal planet shows and knows nothing about living so close with wolves and what they are actually like. I take no offense to that statement except I simply do not understand culling of a particular animal because we believe they are too many of them? I know there are many ranchers who had lost livestock because of them but is the bullet the best solution (granted it is the cheapest)? My question beyond the solution statement is that I wish to get a idea from those who live in or near Wisconsin or any rural area with wolves, do you feel threaten enough to justify a culling?
  3. It is unfortunate that such people exist in this world and I do agree that proper punishment should not just be 6months and a fine. However I gotta say if they this to another human being in China they will wish they can eat a bullet before their sentence ends. Some might find this prison sentence rather unique and can be very cruel. Some of the prisons have started to harvest "assets" who are lifers along with 12 hour hard labor. But for these 2 their crime would fit the punishment
  4. Lots of good advices above but have to ask is what you are charging within your area however big that is. The current avg market price? Also I would highly recommend that you leave yourself an open ended contract to give yourself some wiggle room for pricing. It would not be fair to you that you put in a lot of effort for a more difficult dog then feel resentful at the end with the monetary reward. It would not be healthy for you, your business and your clients in the long run. Lastly, these type of lifestyle altering service is usually based on an emotional value rather then cold logic. A lot of pet owners will go to lengthy extremes including myself to make sure their dogs are physically and emotional well. Does that mean you can overcharge? sure you can but my meaning is to say with genuine concern and good business practice you can promote your brand in a way that you can justify to charge a premium for your services.
  5. Just like any breeds its never a good feeling to have your favorite breed on there. But the media like anywhere in the world needs to generate interest so they post pictures of dogs with "vicious looks" or iconic breeds known for bad press. Personally I like to see a article about how to ID idiot dog owners compliment the article with pictures:P
  6. My advice to you is to engage someone with a small female dog that is much older around 7 plus years. Typically older dogs are more calm and tolerant with younger dogs. I know kaiser is more then a puppy however he might not know all the rules when approaching a smaller dog. Both dogs would need to be supervised of course and well let nature take its course. Most dogs particularly older ones is capable of teaching tolerance and acceptance to younger ones. Also since Kaiser still is unaltered you might want to look into getting a older female husky to play with instead of a male one.
  7. Have you tried to take Diamond to a different groomer? Also as dogs bullying him size hardly matters, its more or less about the personality. I have seen a 15 pound terrier mix bullying a bull mastif weighing 140pounds. Also try this get a brush and start brushing diamond see how he reacts. If he backs away or gets very scared then you know that the act of brushing has somehow scared him and point you closer to the fact that it is the groomer. Hope this helps
  8. I guess the instructor forgot to tell him that there was a 3rd kind of dogs "the smart ones" who would take advantages of the situation.
  9. As a husky volunteer and a rescue of 2 huskies some of more common behavior issues I have seen is merely poor dog socialization, jumping on people, counter surfing, the occasional fear of people due to physical punishment. All of these issues can be resolved with a lot of patience and consistent training.
  10. As a owner of 2 rescues I can see first hand what mental damages as well physical damages can be done to the dogs. The mental damage can never be undone as that imprint of fear of getting hit will remind them. Syn my female had an incredibly hard time overcoming that mental scarring as it took her 2 years to even wag her tail at me from me just stroking her head. That being said I do agree with other post regarding physical punishment when left no options in an emergency. However your underlying training methods is that of borderline fear and intimidation control. As much as you love your dogs and your dogs love you there is always a nagging reminder that if they disobey you a physical retaliation will fall upon them at some point. Not exactly a healthy way to live since we can not communicate effectively to tell them under what circumstances will physical punishment come. I think its great that your voice control over them with the serious tone will convince them to knock off whatever they are doing and you should continue to just work on that without the physical punishment. Also punishing your dog because it is following its primal instinct for chasing a prey is undeserving, there is a much easier way to resolve that issue just keep the dogs separated from the cats. We as the owners who can control just about every aspect of their environmental interactions should not only have the intelligence and the discipline to simply make it happen. Lastly regarding the rough play with the whole air bite and the close call to the nose of your dog. Just like you and your dog had a few "accidents" one of these days it will develop into some unwanted behaviors such as your dog doing it to another person or develop a fear of people touching his face. There are many other ways to interact and have fun with your dogs without that particular rough play. Feel free to respond I would enjoy having a constructive debate with you.
  11. What a beautiful little guy, but to answer some of your questions. As for the transition to the bedroom and the training of the signal to go bathroom, my suggestion is to train yourself to be on a consistent schedule for bathroom breaks. Also you want to start your little guy on a consistent food schedule as well. Also look into crating him at night in your bedroom to reduce the potty accidents. Also understand that since Annubis is still learning to control his bladder and bowl function you are going to lose a lot of sleep at night for the next several months trying to prevent potty accidents by letting him out every couple of hours at night for him to relive himself. As for getting him used to people just slowly work him from meeting just a few family members to then a friendly dog walking group, and finally just everybody in the park. I wish you good luck with your training.
  12. Well my question is this, has Storm ever play with another husky before? Also I notice that most huskies can be very playful with all dogs and some like mine will choose who they consider a "pack member" to play with. Or maybe it will take some time for Storm to warm up to the other huskies to get them to play with him.
  13. When your 2 huskies play and the other dog growls at them look at how close your 2 are relative to the dog. The other dog might just want to give a warning that they are invading his/her personal space. I had a similar encounter when my 2 play too closely to another dog. A simple way is just to invite your 2 to play somewhere more spacious. Here is too a speedy recovery of Zelda
  14. Ah the big 3 its like turning 21, time for a doggie beer along with that steak Happy birthday diamond
  15. What a undeserving owner to give up on a dog cause it's "hard" I really do hope that your dad agrees to foster him. Poor little guy I hope he finds the right family to be with *crossing fingers hope its yours Olivia.
