I just want to thank you all for all your advice and friendly comments! I'm so glad i found this forum and know no matter what i have plenty of people out there to help with any questions i may have!
Luka will be 7 weeks when i pick him up next week and i'm starting off with a lupine regular collar. They do have a lifetime guarantee like stated earlier. I'm eventually going to move up to a harness when he gets a little bit bigger though.
i'd wait till he was a little older. i plan on getting a second husky but i want luka to be older and for us to have really bonded before a new one comes along.
oh he is definitely being crate trained. and i knew the part about not being off the lead. luckily, for me im used to only having them on a lead. the lab wasn't ever trusted off the lead either. he'd be gone in about 1 second. i used to have to load up in my car and go pick him up in a nearby neighborhood if he escaped.
thanks nix ill have to look into ordering that book!
although this is my first husky, when i lived with my parents i was the proud owner of a beautiful yellow lab. (he stayed with them as he's my mother's "favorite child") i know basic training like to sit, stay, laydown, heel, etc. Is there any major training i need to focus on with Luka? I've never done any pulling activities unless you count being drug everywhere by my lab, cody. (Talk about a dog who needs a no-pull harness.) Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks for the signature tips! I'll have to resize the pics. I'll make sure and most more pics as I receive them. And yes that Is the most recent pic of my furbaby !! Can't wait to have him I need the next two weeks to fly by
i'm fortunate that i have a 40 hour a week job but i'd rather make less money and own the house. (i'm 22) i'm currently renting right now and when i see how much cheaper it could be for me to own a house (monthly payment wise) it makes me sick! i'm sure things will pick up! Just keep at it!
p.s. sitting at home with the dogs is one of the major things i look forward to when i get Luka, i hardly ever go out, enjoy it!
Yes either size comes with a divider so I can purchase only one and just make it bigger as he grows. I just don't want to buy one too small and have to buy a new one later on!
Luka will be crated and i'm having some difficulty deciding on what kind of crate and what size to buy. I went to Hollywood Feed (good pet supplies store) and the lady that runs the place owns a husky. She recommended a size 36' for the crate. After reading a bunch of people's comments on here I see that I may need to buy a 42'. The major brand they sell is "icrate", I don't know if anyone has heard of that brand but it does have a double latch and she said she's had no problem with escape issues.
So any recommendations on size? I don't want him to be uncomfortable in this thing. I would also like to add that he won't be sleeping during nights in the crate, just during the day some when i'm at work.
