obviously the fact that a little girl is part of this tragic story is horrible. her life was taken for no reason. However, the dogs also matter because this yet again is affecting an entire breed not just someone's dog. The more stories that arise that harder it is for people like myself, who are responsible owners, to own our dogs in peace. you may not understand, but own a pitbull and you will. Knox is a puppy and we take crap for him constantly, whether it be snide remarks or facing state legislation preventing ownership.

i'm just over reading stories about how "awful" pitbulls are. they're one of the sweetest breeds i've ever had the pleasure of owning. i wouldn't trade my pittie for the world and he's great with kids and small dogs, better than Luka actually.

Luka was 43 lbs last time we weighed him but he's gained weight since then. I'd guess almost around 50 now and I don't expect him to be much heavier. Weights can differ so much.

I would never let mine off lead. Luka could careless about recall, I'm chopped liver compared to the great big world. Helping out with our local rescue really puts things in perspective when 1. You see how many huskies wind up in shelters every day. 2. How many emails you get of people that have lost their dog by having him offlead. In my opinion why take the risk? I plan on having Luka in my life as long as possible and letting him sprint around in an unenclosed area offlead could possibly damage that. Recall is an important tool for any dog but all it takes is that ONE time and they're gone. I refuse to be that person. Bottom line if you trust your dog, that's fine but imagine one time him not coming back and being lost forever. Could you handle that? I know I couldn't...

i still don't leave mine unsupervised in our fenced in backyard. i don't trust Luka not to dig out. i will let them out first thing in the mornings and they play for 30 minutes but i'm periodically outside checking on them. other than that, they're never out there without me. needless to say, i spend A LOT of time outside. haha

i use a regular short lead with a WYDWL harness for Luka. Knox hates walks so i've been using a retractable lead and a regular harness for him. i like the idea of that splitter as mine get tangled up so easily currently.
