  1. Dad: Scottish, Irish Mom: No idea because she's adopted
  2. well luka hates his teeth being brushed. i have to basically lay on him and use the finger brush. he likes the taste of his doggy toothpaste (vanilla flavored) but not a big fan of me all up in his mouth. knox hides somewhere when he sees it.
  3. lol... i felt like Luka's behavior would never get better. he was horrible at mouthing. now he doesnt attack me he attacks our windowsills LOL
  4. she looks a little rough in this picture. lol they took her to get groomed yesterday !
  5. Well after I got didn't get to foster the boy from the animal shelter because he got adopted (yay!!) i started seeing info posted on my facebook newsfeed about needing fosters for an abundance of huskies in Charlotte, NC. I commented on the post to say i was interested and instead I got a reply from our local husky rescue telling me they need fosters. So the director called me last night to go over some information with me (i've spoken to her before when i looked into adopting) and she sent me a picture of my possible new foster. Her name is Sera (cee-rah). She wound up being microchipped but her owner took 4 days to call back about her and then mentioned he would be out of town for a few weeks. They haven't heard from him since. All her vetting wound up being paid for by the rescue and I think she is heartworm positive There is one another dog I might be getting instead but she's leaning towards placing me with this girl Wish me Luck !!
  6. Luka was very bad about jumping and very bad about nipping. I felt like nothing would work... Ignoring him was the answer. His was more when I walked In the door I would get pounced on. I would turn my back to him and flat out ignore him till he quit. He doesn't jump on me anymore but does run around like a crazed lunatic... Silly huskies!

    Dog Food

Mine so but I think I am going to try to switch them to a brand with multiple flavors (like totw) so I can switch it occasionally without upsetting their tummies.
  8. I'm sorry you feel that way! I don't think anyone here tries to ignore posts! I try to respond as much as possible with two dogs of my own and a full time job I sometimes don't find the time! Bumping it up is a great suggestion because I know sometimes threads get forgotten or unseen because they get taken off the recent posts on the home screen! Keep posting and ill keep a special eye out for your posts, I know we would all like to help you as much as we can!
  9. well i may have spoke to soon! charlotte SPCA has an overwhelming number of male huskies that need fosters so i just emailed! they have transports available but they have too many! fingers crossed!!
  10. well after luka ate the windowsills i have decided against letting him run free in the house without supervision ....
  11. Luka loves looking out the window. I hope one day I don't have to crate him so he has this option more. glad you got some alone time! As for the bathroom I couldn't tell you the last time I went alone LOL nosy dogs....
  12. Luka has what I like to call selective hearing. He does listen to me as opposed to my OH but that's simply because I've put in more training with him. He will chill out but Knox keeps on and so yes I do have to separate them. I'm talking maybe once a month tops to give you a better insight. My issue is that I don't understand how a dog like Luka is fine with all dogs and then Sunday he acts different. I didn't understand what you meant about leasing him. That sounds more reasonable and I will def consider trying that. I don't mean to sound defensive sometimes it's just frustrating because I can't explain exactly what I mean online and no one really knows my dog but me. I appreciate your advice!
  13. Yes! The puppy was playing with Knox and that's when Luka got a little too rough. It's like he was like hey he's my friend not yours and you can't play with him! When I first got Luka he was around a Boston terrier for months so he has always been good with any size dog. When we got Knox things changed a bit. He has always been very careful with Knox but now that Knox is 30 lbs he gets a little rough sometimes. I don't know if I'm just overreacting and it's normal play but every once and awhile I do step in. I do agree that Knox needs better manners. I've been taking him to the dog park to socialize him and he's come a long way. I've also noticed they tend to get too rough with each other if bones are involved. They both will have one but all of a sudden Knox decides he wants Lukas and Luka is not down for that. That is when both bones are taken away. If they can't behave then no one gets one. I do feel guilty though because Luka technically isn't doing anything wrong. If you tried to take my treat I probably wouldn't just let you either. I'm not sure how to correct that any other way. My point is Luka has gotten too rough with another dog ONE time. I understand that one time is all it takes and that's why I'm posting. Our friends bring dogs over all the time and he's just happy go lucky and no issues. But this one particular time he went after the puppy probably 3 times when Knox was playing with him so I leashed him and we left. The owner of the puppy was like they're fine they're just playing but honestly I know my dog and he just doesn't play like that.
  14. that's great advice but my issue is going to remain the same if it doesn't happen consistently. It's not every small dog we see, Sunday was the first time he's acted like that besides with Knox. He's never had a problem in the past but I do agree that I should nip it in the bud now before it does become a problem. I just don't think it's fair to leash him the entire time when we don't have any issues. Maybe if the situation becomes that way I can then leash him. As for him and Knox, They do get rough occasionally and I break it up. However, it's not just Luka... Knox usually initiates it and Luka responds. I separate them until they can play nice which usually takes about a couple of minutes and they are fine. I don't know if you're directing it towards me that I'm getting hung up on aggression or not but my issue isn't whether or not it's aggressive it's how do i correct a problem that isn't persistent or rarely happens?
  15. i can look all over the country! haha i will get my foster ... and maybe a failure
  16. i do think i am waiting till after i get back from husky camp though, i don't want to overwhelm josh when i'm gone hahaha
  17. this is the first time i've had an issue with Luka being too rough. My dog has been socialized since I got him at 8 weeks old, he's never not been around other dogs. if preventing him from the dog park is what i wind up having to do i will do it. i won't risk my dog's life for a visit to the dog park. However, i believe there must be another way to discourage this behavior.
  18. lol you hit the nail on the head

    Dog Food

i feed the same kibble every day but they get some human food during the day (all healthy stuff like veggies, etc.) i think mine might be getting sick of their food though which is why i plan to move them to a brand with multiple flavors so i can switch it up
  20. luka ate my whole pillowcase once. i didn't know that was actually possible. haha luckily he behaves now. he just likes to cuddle and hog the bed.
  21. just re-read the fifty shades trilogy. no idea what i want to read next. maybe j.k. rowlings new book?
  22. i crate mine while i'm at work. they sleep in the bed at night though. like becky suggested though even still i keep my door closed and my bathroom door closed. haha they will get up in the night and destroy something if not. If it's bed time and the doors are closed they don't even get out of bed.
  23. that's exactly what i would worry about! i'm really sorry you had to go through that mess. luka has never acted aggressive but i do think it's irresponsible for owners to bring their small tiny dog into a large dog park and then get all upset when there dog bites off more than it can chew. luka has never been involved in one of the fights at the park but he does pick on smaller dogs. it's a shame that we may have to stop going because people are ignorant. if i had a tiny dog that barked at every one it would stay at home or go to the small dog area.
