  1. its illegal to deface currency in the US as welll but like you said it could be removed
  2. i don't use a training collar because i don't have a need for one. My trainer recommended starting off with loose leash walking. You want them to be comfortable with being on a lead. When Luka starts pulling really bad i just stop walking. I don't mean jerking him or anything i just calmly stop. he winds up turning around to look at me and then i said come'on luka let's go and we walk together. i agree with the other two suggestions, if he won't quit pulling i just change directions and we're off again. there are times when i do want him to be right beside me (depending where we are walking) but for the most part i don't mind if he is front (at a suitable distance). i have a walk with love harness and i'm obsessed with it! it's cut down Luka's pulling by far.
  3. luka is blowing. i'm pretty sure i've been eating hair for the past week. can't keep it from blowing all around the place
  4. i've been wondering what to do about that as its time for Luka to switch over in about 2 1/2 months and i didn't really want to spend a small fortune on two different types of food for him and knox. knox is like 4 months old so i prob could switch him to totw too. i just haven't decided what food i'm putting Luka on yet... something completely grain free.
  5. Luka's beautiful parti-colored eyes. Never seen a husky with both eyes parti-colored. He also plays fetch, very non-husky like.
  6. Choosing your first dog what happened I've had family dogs my whole life and after living by myself for about a year I decided I was ready for my own. My boyfriend and I were planning on moving in together in the summer so we discussed what breed we were interested in. I wanted a German Shepard as they've always been my favorite and I've never been able to have one. Josh wanted a Weimaraner. We both disagreed on each others choice. My second choice was a husky. He surprisingly agreed. We then decided to research the breed and breeders. It was finally set that we would get a husky. what did you do We contacted a local breeder who told us they were having their last litter for the year (they only had two for two years, talk about timing) she mentioned that we could come over, meet their dogs, and what not. We met her and her beautiful huskies and she gave us more information about the breed. We discussed the importance of having a fenced in backyard, shedding, picky eaters, etc. I was in love with Luka's mom and it was set. We signed up to the waiting list. We came back after the litter was born to pick up our puppy. I knew I wanted a boy and I just melted over Luka. We then got him at 7 1/2 weeks. (Slightly early I know but I didn't know then what I know now.) what would you advise now more experienced Look into rescue first. There are so many without homes and even if you're dead set on a puppy you can find puppies in rescues as well. I probably will never purchase another dog. Preparing your home what happened I bought a large crate and sectioned it off along with a quality food (taste of the wild), chew toys, stain remover lol, bowls, collar, leash, and set up a vet appointment for a checkup since Luka already had his first set of shots. what would you advise now more experienced I would have been more consistent with potty training as it took Luka forever. Whether that was me living in an apartment the first 5 months I don't know. It was hard. First 24 hours home what happened He was very nervous at first as he wasn't used to his new home. He slept with me and peed on the bed haha. The next day he was so playful! what did you do Was completely obsessed with him.. Lol played cuddled what would you advise now more experienced I didn't really have a bad experience with bringing him home as I was already a member here and had gotten loads of advice. First visit to the vets what happened My vet looked him over told me he was healthy and we discussed his future visits. what did you do Made his next appointment! what would you advise now more experienced I lucked out with me vet, he owns a husky mix, is familiar with the breed, and many friends recommended him. I would def suggest researching multiple vets to find the best one for your husky as many don't know about the breed. First walk what happened My parents lab pulled very bad so it wasn't anything I wasn't used to. what did you do Remained consistent, worked with a trainer. what would you advise now more experienced Use a trainer!! First training session what happened Luka howled and talked the whole session and disrupted the class. what did you do Was embarrassed but he learned so much so it was worth it haha what would you advise now more experienced Def go to a trainer that has experience with the breed. Ours was, but I didn't even check before so it was a lucky chance. First long journey what happened We took Luka to Josh's moms house this Christmas. what did you do Had to deal with hair allllllllll over my car. what would you advise now more experienced Have a big vehicle able to hold a crate haha First time having someone visit home what happened He jumped all over them. what did you do Told him down. Which he promptly ignored. what would you advise now more experienced Don't let them get away with behavior you don't want. Luka still acts insane when people come over and it's hard to fix later on. First time meeting another dog what happened He went crazy playing with a fellow friends beagle. He ha a blast. what did you do Watched him carefully. what would you advise now more experienced Socialize your dog early, I did and its paid off. Luka gets along with everyone. First holiday what happened We had our first Christmas together last year! Can't wait for his birthday! what did you do Spoiled him rotten duh what would you advise now more experienced Buy lots and lots of gifts because its so fun!!
  7. I will say at the end of the day they will always have a mind of their own but that's why I love the breed so much!
  8. not really wanting to go over 700 at the very most. but 500-600 would be better.
  9. i know he looks like a big cuddle bug
  10. Puppy classes will help i promise. As for the nipping, honestly it takes time! It was about 6 months before Luka completely stopped mouthing/attempting to bite my hand off. haha Luka was really bad about jumping, he still does occasionally but for the most part has stopped. If he jumps on me i completely walk away from him, i won't even look at him. He gets completely ignored. After a few times he learned jumping = no attention and he was not happy with that. As for the jumping on furniture, i can't help there. Mine are allowed on whatever they want, as they sleep in the bed. All i can tell you is it takes patience and being consistent! it really does feel like it will take forever but it will happen if you stay on top of it. 10 days isn't long enough to made an impression on him. These problems won't go away overnight and not even in a week but they will go away with the right training. Tell your trainer about the issues you are having. They can help.
  11. Beautiful Leah! Nice to have you around!
  12. Not many members from around here but still helpful. He is microchipped but the number is disconnected and the address is 4 hours away. I've already said i could foster.... Josh is going to KILL me. but i can't help it he's a senior and so sad looking. Waiting to hear back on more details, hopefully his owner is found.
  13. looks very nice! first time i'm seeing it on main site instead of tapatalk! easy to read, looks less cluttered.
  14. It took awhile to break Luka from biting/mouthing. I have him plenty of chew toys and eventually after some chewed up furniture and help of apple bitter spray he stopped. Patience is the key!
  15. Don't we have the same economy lol?
  16. True but my pup couldn't eat grain free so we have been feeding fromms which only has rice and oatmeal. Hes 10 months and as soon as he's a year I plan on trying grain free again. He loves evos treats so maybe I should try that instead of totw again
  17. Just be prepared!! Oh and according to Sarah I talk funny haha
