1. some people believe in crating, some don't. Luka is crated for 7 hours while i work but he is out all morning before i leave while i'm getting ready. He either follows me around or goes and plays in the backyard. He doesn't like to be crated while we're home. He is only used to it if we are leaving. if you're worried you're crating too much maybe allow your husky to tag along while you're getting ready. It does take a little more of you watching them but after awhile you develop a routine and it's no big deal. As soon as i walk in the door the first thing i do is let him out of his crate, we go outside so he can potty, and then he eats and drinks. We then spend the rest of the afternoon (around 4:30pm - 12am) lol we don't go to bed early, playing in the backyard, going on walks, and spending time together in general. He doesn't sleep in his crate but rather with us. He is a spoiled brat and would be horrified if i made him sleep in it. plus, he likes to cuddle. As for weekends, unless we have to run a quick errand luka is hardly crated at all. When i chose a husky i made sure i would have enough time to spend with him. As long as you're giving him enough attention and exercise and basically developing a relationship with him i think it will be okay. Just like others say, i agree i prefer Luka to be more out than in of the crate.
2. something about sibes has always appealed to me. i could never have one growing up though because i didn't have the time it required to give a sibe the attention/exercise it needs and my mother didn't think huskies should live in warmer climates. As i grew older, i just still basically thought you couldn't have a husky where it's warmer. i met my OH over a year ago and we had decided to get a dog together. he wanted a weimaraner and i wanted a GSD. Neither of us like the other's breed of choice. Huskies were mentioned and i brought up how beautiful and interesting the breed was and he agreed. We started to research. I literally bought books, joined this forum, researched online for weeks. We then FINALLY found a breeder that looked reliable and went to visit them. They told us there were having their last litter for the year (they only had 2 for the year). After meeting with them we decided we were interested in one of their puppies probably. We waited and she notified us when they were born. We put a deposit down to have a pick of the puppies. After seeing all 6 of the adorable furbabies i chose Luka. She sent me weekly pictures and little did he know he already had me wrapped around his finger at 6 weeks. I can honestly say i doubt i will ever go through life again without a Husky. They entertain you, make you laugh, frustrate you at times, but always know the right look to give you when you're mad, and most importantly love you no matter what.
3. yeah my OH would prob be pretty upset with me if i posted pics like that on facebook for everyone to see without atleast letting him look first. oh well, men act like little girls. he'll get over it.
4. sounds like a typical life with a husky.
5. only 99 today! yahooo! wait... is it sad 99 is considered "cool"?
6. lol and LESS clean-up for me!!! haha
7. hahah he is so funny. so cute i just want to hug him. and as for the accident that's something Luka would do. clumsy dog. he's always slipping i swear. glad his tooth is getting fixed!
8. we can agree to disagree. i do think that everyone's dog is different. what may work for me doesn't work for you and vice versa. i was just making sure people didn't feel like they were being bad owners if they decided to use one.
9. that's a very good point. i also wouldn't use a furminator for an every day brushing. the slicker brush works fine for me for that purpose. i would only use it for "extreme shedding".
10. i have a regular slicker brush and gets off a lot of fur. i use it for now. i did however go ahead and buy a furminator and i plan on using it on luka when he blows his coat. i've skimmed it over him already and it's never cut his guard hairs. It's your preference, people will have their opinions, but don't let anyone make you feel like you're doing something wrong by using it. I also would def NOT compare it to shaving a husky. that's a little extreme. i also am planning on buying an undercoat rake when i can find a decent one around here somewhere. luka sheds like a maniac so i'd like to have whole set of tools.
11. he does the same thing! he does laps around everything and goes nuts! he looks hilarious! lol
12. LOVE LOVE LOVE. my favorite puppy!!! lol he's getting so big and the last pic is my favorite!
13. yeah i know i try to shut the door when i shower to prevent this but he just LOVES water. we got him a pool for the backyard and we're going to try it out this weekend. i think he will love it!
14. p.s. you can notice all the water on the wall behind him. oh luka...
15. i know its crazy! i actually picked him out because he had the least amount of black haha. oh well he's still my furbaby Alpha is adorable btw, his facial expressions are so cute.
16. Luka's new favorite game is hilarious. annoying, but seriously funny. He sprints to the bathtub jumps in (picture him flying) goes nuts, then proceeds to jump out and sprint as fast as he can around the house. He continues to do this over and over again until he's exhausted. Oh i forgot to mention this is while I'M IN THE SHOWER! He winds up completely soaked, the bathroom is soaked, and there are little wet husky pawprints all over the carpet. I can't even tell him no because im usually laughing my butt off. lol Relaxing after the zoomies (totally soaked) anybody else's husky like to play in their shower? lol
17. him at like 6 weeks the brat now
18. thank you all! it was very informative! to answer some of the above questions: he is crate trained during the day when i go to work but he throws a fit if im home and keep him locked up. He is pretty good about just laying on the bed cuddling if we're just watching a movie or something. I plan on doing it during a Friday so i can take off work and have him all weekend with me there. Actually i did not know there was still a chance the testicle could drop. interesting. The vet said he could feel it and he wasn't certain it wouldn't drop but so far nothing. Either way i plan on having him neutered as i will never breed him and i don't see why not. yes, i was thinking that's why they mentioned the pain pills due to surgery being more invasive. i'm just a worry wart when it comes to my furbaby. i can't help it haha. but good info. thanks yall!
19. thank you! very tricky to get because im a horrible photographer
20. Well Luka will be neutered as soon as the vet okays it and i have a couple of questions as my parents have never neutered their dogs so it's all kind of new to me. 1. He has one undescended testicle... does this add any severity to the surgery? (i'm already going to be a nervous wreck even though it's a fairly minor procedure) 2. When did most of you neuter your dog? The vet is planning on 6 months because of the issue stated above or he wouldve done it sooner. Is that a good age? Too young or too old? 3. The vet has explained some to me about keeping him calm after the surgery but i have a crazy husky lol so will he be calm because he's sore afterwards or will i need to take other precautions? if so what? 4. My vet mentioned pain pills for Luka. I have mixed feelings about these. I've never given them to a dog and i've heard they're not exactly good for them. Is this false? Does he really need him? i don't want him to be in pain by any means but i don't want to give them to him unless it's necessary. Opinions? Thank you all
21. im so sorry Sparks. i know that's gotta be hard. hopefully you will find someone to take him for awhile. sending hugs your way:grouphug:
