  1. It is possible for them to hit it off within a week. Like stated, let them have their little tiffs, but if it gets too serious then step in. My parents adopted a 2.5yr old male about a month ago and brought him into their house with their 1yr old. Both males, both neutered...and they hit it off right away. No fights or anything. So stay positive...it can happen.
  2. We have laminate through-out our house besides the bedrooms and its great.
  3. Our younger, but bigger boy at 60lbs, is a great "alert" dog. He wont ever attack or bite anyone. But if a stranger comes into the yard, he will bark and howl at them. Happens everytime someone other then a person he knows comes into the yard. He barked/howled at our electric guy when he came to read our meter one morning, I went out and he asked if they were nice. I said yeah they are, they wont bite. As soon as I said that they both started playing with each other (growling and showing teeth)...the electric guy then said yeah they don't look nice, which I replied with a laugh.
  4. Ours too, get along GREAT with GD's. About the best thing ive seen, and am thinking about doing myself. Seeing as MOST people don't know much about Huskys, just buy a Husky on Guard sign, or something similar, and put it out of your house for people to see. It would deter most strangers, since I think most people think huskys are mean.
  5. It also could be allergies. This year, our one boy started to have a discharge from his right eye. We got some eye drops from the vet that we give him if it happens. So far it was just in the spring, nothing more since summer began.
  6. Yup showing teeth is pretty normal in husky playtime. Ours do it all the time as well. Most people think they are being aggressive, but they aren't. Heres ours...
  7. Gunner (our younger boy) has Hip Dysplasia. So we too know about bad joints. We used to have our two pull sled, but once we noticed Gunner was walking weird, and had him x-rayed to be certain, that all came to an end. But the Mal we know that is a retired weight puller, has no problems with his hips/joints. So I gotta wonder if over time while training the dog (if they don't already have joint problems), their joints get more condition to it. Kind of like how fighters condition their bones to be able to take/deliver more punishment without fracturing or breaking. I don't know, I don't do it lol. But so many people weight pull their dogs I cant imagine every one of the dogs end up having issues. I love seeing working breeds working. I wish we could still pull sleds with ours. So Huskymom09, I find it awesome you do that with 2 of yours!
  8. Our boys are usually quiet while we are gone. If we take Ammo and leave Gunner at home, then its a different story and he has SA from Ammo...so he goes crazy. The only time our neighbor said she heres them is if we dog-sit another dog and that one howls...then ours will to. But luckily our neighbors like huskies and go watch sledding events...so they are ok with it lol. It helps we have our own house so they aren't right next door.
  9. Agree with everyone else. Huskys have some great/weird metabolisms that they can go days without eating and be perfectly fine. Scientists still don't quite understand how they can slow down and speed up their metabolisms on demand like they do. But that is one reason why they don't have to eat everyday. Our boy Ammo has gone 1.5 - 2 days without eating. It does kinda worry us at first, but sooner or later he eats. He doesn't lose weight or act weird, just doesn't eat. No big deal.
  10. The one im taking about isn't on youtube. He pulled carts loaded with weight. However u did see that one on youtube of pulling the stripped out car in the driveway. Insane how much they can pull when conditioned and fitted with the correct harness.
  11. Agree with everyone else. Ive never heard of Huskies doing weight pulling. But I know Mals do it...and I know one in my town is a retired weight puller. Hes 8yrs old now, but when he used to pull he maxed out at 2300lbs! If using the proper weight pulling harness I don't think it will lead to bad hips or any other problems.
  12. Sounds about right. Ammo and Gunner have gotten 2 rabbits in the back yard. Ammo almost had a chipmunk the other day, and by almost I mean he took 2/3 of its tail off lol.
  13. Our Gunner will howl if a stranger comes to the front door or if hes out back in the yard and a stranger goes back there. He howled at the electric guy one day when he came to read our meter...I went out there and he asked if they were nice and I said yeah (while Gunner was still howling and Ammo was growling at Gunner), he said I don't know about that lol. But if someone or a dog just walks by, they wont bark or anything. Only if someone comes in the yard Gunner does, Ammo doesn't. Still not good guard dogs as they wont do anything but bark/howl lol.
  14. Our younger boy has HD. We feed him (well both of them) Hills Prescription Diet JD Hip/Joint, along with Glycoflex2 Glucosamine Chews. Between the both of them, within 3 weeks he was like a whole new dog. Running and playing like never before. And when we go to Husky Huddles, and we know he will be running and playing for a couple hours, we give him plain Aspirin to keep the pain down.
