  1. Oh, if you have a big freezer you could store some of the dry food in there to make it last longer!
  2. Wow thats a great price! Tractor supply here sells it for about $46 for a 30lb bag, and online is around the same price. Cheapest price so far is $45.50 at the nearest feed store. Horizon Legacy is about $43.50 for a 25lb bag (not including shipping), but it's been called the next best thing to Orijen, at a way cheaper price, so I'm all good with paying that much for this food. Their other food, Pulsar, is $35 for a 25lb bag and pretty much the same, but lower protein. Just so glad this food doesn't give them fish breath like the fish flavored Earthborn Holistic did x.x
  3. Ugh chicken allergies are the worst, as everything has chicken in it these days  I've also been trying to stay away from all grain and potato since cato gets some deadly gas when he eats potato based foods
  4. okay so I finally got time to sit down and post some stuff, and also figured out how the gallery thing works! So this is Cato, Juno's legitimate uncle. He's 2.5 years, and when I got him he was 48 pounds, when he should have been at around 55-57. He was fed some tractor supply crap food, and had chronic ear infections. He was kept in a 10x10 pen for 8-10 hours daily while his family went to work/school, and was super pent up with energy because they didn't have a yard, and the only exercise he got was going for a quick walk to go potty every day. When I first got him, he would pull like mad as well. He has a few behavioral issues we are currently trying to work out, but so far he's been pretty cool. We are hoping with a lot of training, he will be just as amazing as Juno

  13. We had Juno on TOTW for a while, but since and cato are allergic to chicken, I had to switch to a brand that had a fish formula with higher protein.
  14. They sell Merrick grain free, which is pretty great food, along with natures variety. They also sell solid gold, which is made by Diamond, and that food is pretty good but it's pretty expensive. The only place near me that sells earthborn is petland, but I've switched to Horizon Legacy since my absolutely love it
  15. Yea the only petsmart food that is worth the slightest look is Castor and Pollux. Love their new grain free duck line with 37% protein. Of course, the fat was too high for Cato's tummy, but still a good food. When it comes to chain pet stores though, Petco has better products
  16. I just use grain free dog food. They love the food they're on now, and will jump over hoops for it. Sometimes I'll use grain free canned dog food made of mostly meat to freeze in their kongs. I also kind of like the omega grain free salmon treats made by pet botanics. If I can find some nice fish based cat treats at petsmart while I'm browsing I'll get those too
  17. I don't like any food with yeast in it, and since it's one of the first few ingredients in it, it's a red flag for me. Looks like it's mostly chicken, pea starch, fish meal, beet pulp and yeast. At least the protein is decent at 30% and fat is low at 15%. personally it does not look to be worth the price
  18. So I found this awesome food because Cato, our new sibe, isn't used to being fed rich food and cannot fully digest the earthborn holistic great plains feast. I've been really picky though. Cato and Juno are both allergic to chicken, so finding chicken free dog foods can be difficult. Not to mention I only feed grain free and I prefer fish based. Well, I found some really freaking awesome food, in case some of you don't know about it. I'm currently trying to get chewy.com to carry it, but this is the best price I've found: http://www.petsupplies.com/item/horizon-legacy-salmon-dry-dog-food/402859/ http://www.petsupplies.com/item/horizon-pulsar-fish-dry-dog-food/402881/ Grain free, chicken free, potato free fish based food that doesn't cost an arm and a leg! For those who like higher protein, Legacy fish has 34% protein, 14% fat. Pulsar has 28% protein, 15% fat. I bought both to see which one Cato can tolerate more, and which one he would prefer. honestly, I've never seen him eat so fast and then demand more. He LOVED it and that's really saying something because he's pretty picky, mostly with fish based foods. But the best part? The price! $44 for a 25 pound bag of legacy and $35 for a 25 pound bag of Pulsar. The chicken flavor is just as good, but cheaper. Pulsar chicken is $31 for a 25 pound bag while Legacy is $46 for a 28 pound bag. If anyone else wants to check it out, I strongly recommend this food!
  19. I regret not cancelling my pawalla subscription or not checking to see if it was cancelled because now they keep charging my card $30 every month. I also regret going to world market and splurging on sweet things and eating it all in one night when that money could have been put in savings... oh and my bi-weekly stops at panera bread for one of their bagels and cream cheese, I regret doing that as well and really wish I would stop haha
  20. Nah those awful rescue people would never give me any type of information to make my day at least a little bit better. Some time soon though I'm going to post an ad on craigslist asking who adopted her and to see if we can get them to join our meet ups. I know Juno misses her... for 2 weeks after Piper left, I could barely get her to eat anything, and she is normally never like that. She wouldn't play with toys or want to go for walks, she would just lay there all day. It was heartbreaking for me to watch so we ended up getting in touch with a friend of her breeder and she referred me to a family who was looking to rehome a dog from one of her litters about 2 years ago. I consider him a rescue because of the shape he was in as well. I'll post some pictures in the introductions pretty soon
  21. Oh sorry, it's been a while since I've been on to reply because of work! What we ended up doing was contacting the rescue. I told them that we found her on craigslist and had her for about 2 weeks. We found out first that she needed tooth surgery, which I was completely willing to pay for, but then I found out the next day that she belonged to rescue after going to pick up her shot records from the old owners. I told them we really wanted to keep her, and my father wanted to adopt her, but we knew their policy and knew she had to go back to them before we could actually call her ours. The woman I spoke to was really nice about the whole thing and kept me updated. Instead of returning her to the old owners, the rescue woman said to drop her off at my nearest shelter and she would come and get her and keep me updated. They fixed her tooth that week, and updated her on distemper, and told me that my father could check on petfinder to see when she would be back up for adoption. Well, I looked and looked and for about a week, I saw nothing. Finally I emailed them, and got an awful email from the woman who runs the organization saying that we knew the entire time we had her that she belonged to them because she had their tags, and it was pretty much a thanks but no thanks type of email. She thought that I was conspiring against them to keep her for the two weeks until I found out she needed expensive tooth surgery and then decided she was not worth the surgery and decided to just surrender her instead. They also said she was already adopted out. My family is pissed at them because I didn't say anything about me wanting to adopt her, so they pretty much screwed my family over just for spite. Oh, and the tags she had on said "rescue dog, if found please call *********." I didn't call the tag number because I assumed it was the number that belonged to the owners I got her from.
  22. We found her on craiglist from a couple looking to rehome her, and I was stupid and didn't ask enough questions about her. When I picked up her medical records, I found that she came from Palmetto paws, an organization that requires the people to return the dog to the rescue if they ever need to rehome. Since they breached their contract, the rescue could literally come to my house and take her from me. But not only that, but when I got her from the couple, I was dealing with the man that owned her. The wife was kept out of the loop, which was the condition that she would be free to a good home, but she wanted money for her since she paid $250 to the rescue they got her from. She called me up last night demanding I pay $100 for the dog, and when I tried to explain that she needed $700 worth of dental surgery, she screamed at me saying she didn't care, and how I had to pay her or return the dog. So not only would I have to pay $800 for her, I would never legally own her and the rescue could come and take her from me--or if they didn't find out I had her, and instead she got loose some day, I would never be able to get her back. I'm so angry at myself for not asking enough questions about her before I fell in love with her.
  23. So guess what everyone! I got a call yesterday with the original owner (the wife this time) yelling at me to pay $100 for piper, since she paid 250 for a fee when she adopted her. She adopted her from a rescue called Palmetto Paws, who in their contract states that if the dog is rehomed, or even placed as an outside dog, they have the legal right to come and take the dog. So, the woman has demanded I pay $100 for a dog I will never legally own, on top of the $700 it will take to fix her tooth. It has been a great day. just wonderful.
  24. thanks everyone! And I have been, she's loads more affectionate than Juno. But that's probably just because Juno's had it great her entire life since she came from a good breeder. She's constantly looking to me to tell her what to do next, I'm considering training her to be a therapy dog. She would love going places to get loved on
  25. Oh yes! The first night I brushed her for nearly 3 hours trying to remove that awful undercoat. The next day, we went to the park and I let her run in the pond because she was getting a good bath after. The bath took about 3 hours, as I blew out her coat with the shop vac in the yard. so much hair! This is the result of more than 6 hours of work
