Snow Nose!

Recommended Posts

Seems like some of mine have kept it longer some summers than others. This year, they've all gotten quite dark, but other summers, several have had lighter pigment, although somewhat darker than in winter. Don't know why this would be so, though... Maybe something in their diet or the amount of time they've spent in the sun???

dont mean to sound dumb lmao but what is a snow nose?????????????  never heard of this in my life??

Snow nose is when the black pgment in the nose, turns to a lighter color. This usually happens in the winter when sunlight is diminished and days are shorter, hence the term snow nose. Once the day light hours increase and a dog is exposed to the sunlight more, the pigments in the nose darken again. Zoya has a snow nose. Her nose gets pinkish areas during the winter. Right now, it is fully black.

Chopper for the first time last December got snow nose!

However it's mid summer and it hasn't changed back all black.

Has anyone else's Sibe experienced this?

Our sibe had a solid black nose when we adopted him from the shelter in 2007. A month after we adopted him he got a snow nose and he's had one ever since.

Now our sibe's nose does get pinker in the winter months and darker in the summer months but it has never returned to the solid black like it was when we adopted him 3 years ago. :)
