This was my post, you can copy past it if you wish: On August 2, 2010 Bear-Bear the Siberian Husky and his owners were at the off-leash fenced dog park in Baltimore when an off duty law enforcement officer entered the park with his wife and leashed German Shepherd. When Bear-Bear went to greet the new comers, he jumped up on the German Shepherd to Initiate play and the officer took it as aggression and told the owners to get their dog. Before allowing them to act, the officer took out a gun and shot the husky, who lay on the ground bleeding to death. He died several hours later. The officer claimed he thought the dog was a threat to his wife and him and his dog. Upon further investigation by animal control, the German Shepherd was found to not have a scratch on him. The law enforcement officer was let go with "No criminal activity to report." After complaint from citizens, it is meriting further investigation. Why did this off duty officer have his gun in a recreational dog park and why would he administer unauthorized use of deadly force when no citizens were in danger- possibly even putting other citizens in the area in danger with the shooting? Why was he not charged for this? Why didn't he just take his dog, who was on leash, pull him away and leave? This is outrageous. Law Enforcement officers are just that, law enforcers. It does not make them above the law, it does not give them the immunity to public endangerment. Something needs to be done about this- the news is already reaching overseas with outraged citizens of both the U.S. and Europe. You can help by signing the petition to ensue justice for this innocently murdered dog, joining groups and raising awareness by sharing this information and his story. This dog did not deserve to die... and maybe it's just a dog now, but what will be next with an officer carrying around a weapon on a trigger hair temper and judgment?
