Today, the Long Beach Police arrested Mitchell Marsicano, 55, after allegations that he engaged in sexual misconduct with a 2 yr-old dog named Snowball. Allegations indicate that the dog, a Shiba Inu, has been repeatedly assaulted by Marsicano. According to Nassau District Attorney Kathleen Rice, Marsicano had engaged in sexual misconduct with the dog at least 2 times between October 12 and October 21. The dog resided with a tenant that lives in an upstairs apartment of a house that Marsicano owns. The tenant called police after they caught Marsicano engaging in "sexual misconduct" with their dog yesterday morning. Marsicano had entered their apartment without permission and he faces burglary charges as a result. The 23-lb dog was removed from the residence earlier this morning and was taken to the Nassau Animal Emergency Group for an exam. The exam revealed that the dog had injuries that are consistent with trauma. Currently, Snowball is in the care of the Freepoint Animal Shelter. The case is under investigation by the District Attorney's Animal Cruelty Unit - Marsicano may face additional charges. Marsicano was arraigned in Long Beach City Court - his bail was set at $20,000 bond/$10,000 case. He is due back in court on October 27. If convicted, Marsicano faces up to 1 year in jail for misdemeanor sexual misconduct. The felony burglary charges could put him behind bars for 15 years. The courts will have their day with Marsicano. For now, Snowball is safe. If the allegations against Marsicano are true, his actions are indicative of an extremely disturbed individual.
