Sampson is ill

Hey guys just thought I would bring everyone up-to-date about Sampson. When I went out to let him back in the house yesterday after work, he was unable to get up on his hind legs without help. Once he is up he moves very slowly and is incredibly unsteady I had to help him stand up and help him up the stairs. He was very listless and just unable to get about and uninterested in food or anything else. He was drinking lots of water and not easting any food.

Took him to the vet first thing this morning and he was running a fever of 106F and was whinning everywhere he was touched by the vet. The average temp for a dog is 101F and the normal range is from 99-102.5F, so his was rather high. They gave him a shot of antibiotic and steroids in order to try to lower his temp. I think had to take him to the hospital where they ran some bloodwork. He seems to have an inflamed liver but they have no idea why as all other levels were fine. They are keeping him in order to monitor his temp and make sure it is coming down. They are thinking that the not being able to get on his legs and the slow walking and wobbling is from fatigue on account of the elevated liver enzymes.

Right now is a waiting game to see if the temp drops and he is able to start getting around like normal again. Please keep him in your thoughts and keep your fingers crossed that he recovers quickly and completely.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, hugs, and prayerssmile.gif

Just spoke to the hospital and he is still doing nothing but lying down. They tried feeding him again but he was having nothing to do with it still. They have him on pain meds and his temp has come down some more since last time but it still really high. Really hope the fever breaks soon and he starts coming around, not nice seeing him so very listless.

****Update****

Sampson's temp is back to normal and he is able to get up on his own. So a step in the right direction

But he is still whimpering whenever they touch him. We are not sure how much of this is down to pain and how much is down to Sampson being the wuss that he is. They are going to do x-rays and ultrasounds today in order to get a good look at what is going on. They are also going to be assessing the level of liver damage.

He is not out of the woods yet but seems to be responding well to the treatments so far. Thanks again to everyone for their thoughts, hugs, prayers and well wishes.
