KoMist
We have been husky owners since we were adopted by an adult pair in 2005. We have always had dogs in our lives, but now we are forever Sibe owners - no other breed will do! Our first pair was a large Mal/GSD mix male and a large yet true Sibe female. They came to us as an adult pair needing foster care from our area shelter. Needless to say, fostering turned in to adopting. Sadly they came with unknown ages, behavior issues, and health history, so we struggled through heartworm, ibd, spaying an adult female, and finally cancer for both of them. We were thankful to share their lives for four and five years, they were truly blessed souls. We hope we made their last years the best years of their lives. When we lost Kojak on the last day of January, 2009 (our Mal/GSD boy), we were blessed to find another 5-year old male who needed a new home. We drove four hours to see if he would be a match for our girl, Misty. They hit it off great, and Chinook entered our lives in 2009. Chinook is a beautiful silver Sibe with a very heavy coat. He loves to sing and give hugs. This January Misty suddenly became lame, and within two weeks, after several trips to our fantastic vet, we lost her to lymphoma. We were devastated - she was one of those personalities who did not share her affection easily, so her "adoption" of us and her devotion was the greatest gift. She will live on in our hearts forever. While we knew we could never replace Misty, we knew Chinook needed a sister. Yet again we were blessed with another shelter dog when we made a three hour drive to meet Soda, a year-old black and white Sibe girl with lots of energy. Her assessment at the shelter was that she is "really busy" and they weren't kidding! Luckily she likes to play with toys and will play ball alone or with you (when she feels like it!). She is really coming in to her personality as she gets older. So now we have our family again and the world's best answer to a treadmill - walking a husky! We will probably be more of a reader of this forum than an active poster, however we have a lot of experience with behavior issues, diet issues, and health issues. I have included a photo of our current pair, Soda and Chinook. Also a photo of little Soda by herself. Chinook is our avatar today.
