Hi I am looking to buy my 1st siberian husky and have been looking all around the internet to find 1 but most seem to be fake and showing the same pictures in different areas or asking for money upfront. I am just wondering if any of use know where i can safely buy a husky without upfront money being exchanged before getting the dog I am from Liverpool UK and would really appreciate any help anyone could give me. I was told to come on this site by a friend who was helped by the site to get his husky.

first of all welcome to the site.

yep there are loads of con artists out there trying to con people out of hard earnt money for poorly bred sibes. I really recomend ditching the searches on sites such as epupz and contacting breeders directly. there's some really good info on dreamcatcher website.

As a 'rule of thumb' a good ethical breeder will only breed when they want to add to their own pack so if they are not doing that then you could question why they are breeding?? a good breeder will want to interview you & check your garden security and every day things like hours being left and your knowledge on huskys etc. I was interigated big time by my breeder.

IMHO I feel that a breeder should be able to prove their dogs both in the show ring and on the trail (running in harness).

I also recommend you visit breeders first and decide which is a good breeder by your standards - you will be amazed.

However - would you consider a rescue? Huskies in need, SHWA & SHCGB all have pups/dogs needing a good home

There are several rescue sites available in the UK - they're mentioned in this thread, which comes from the Husky re-homing section... http://www.husky-owners.com/forum/index.php?/forum/22-husky-rehoming/.

If it's a puppy you're interested in, rather than re-homing a dog that needs a new home, I would try going to dog shows and performance events, and try to connect with a reputable breeder there - I understand that the UK's Siberian Club also has a list of breeders, but being from the US, I can't help much with that. If you go the route of a puppy, know that a reputable and experienced breeder will make sure that both parents have had their eyes and hips cleared of genetic disease. Occasionally someone will have an accidental litter (there have been some posted on this site), and will also have puppies looking for a forever home. Good luck, make sure to do your research first, to make sure that this is the right breed for you, if you haven't already!

Sorry but i completly disagree with you. A good breeder has no need to advertise as they only breed when they have a list of good owners waiting for pups. I have rarely seen an advert on preloved which would indicate to me that the pup has been ethically breed with the relevent health tests in place. Very few are in the world of showing or working (ok not for everyone) but this raises questions about the quality of dog being bred from and thus the quality of pups.

Have a look on snopeak website (events) is there a event coming up where you can get to - there will always be breeders around and if nothing else everyone there will always talk sibe to you!! the one thing they can do is talk about their dogs - and you will learn loads.

First off, from one new member to another, hello!!

I'm not sure if this will be helpful or not. I found my Siberian by posting an ad on kijiji in locations around where I lived. Within a few weeks of me posting I got a response from an older couple that happened to have two and they had a litter. I didn't get my from a breeder, just a private home sale (made sure to check out their living conditions before purchasing him). I couldn't be happier with the little fellow :3

I'm not sure what the UK equivalent for the site is....

Welcome.

As you haven't got a Husky yet. . .

Please take the time to read through the information in the following link.

http://www.husky-owners.com/forum/index.php?/topic/6922-thinking-of-getting-your-1st-husky-read-this/

Being owned by a husky is not a thing to be entered into lightly.

It takes a lot of commitment. . .(we know a lot of us should be committed . . . lol) biggrin.gif

Hi there.. and welcome to the forum.

Firstly.. it is definately a decision not to be taken lightly, but the fact that you are on the forum asking for help first is a start :)

Please consider a rescue as others have mentioned.. I know there are new pups in at Huskies In Need but can't vouch for any others.

If you are looking to start with a pup, please aquaint yourself with the Bite Inhibition details on the site.. as this is something that is easily overlooked and the high reason many huskies end up in rescue..

Again, welcome to the forum and good luck with your search.

Nikki x

depends on what you're looking for, Huskies in Need has two Husky x pups right now. As for puppies, I'd look for a reputable breeder, make sure they're papered and are hip and eye scored. We got Embry off a local breeder, he's not papered. but we got zoey off kijiji and she was papered.

some breeders on Champdogs, quite a few of the names i recognise and have seen their vans at rallies. they are a friendly bunch so its worth getting to a rally if you can (info on snopeak website)

some have health checks and some dont so please be careful. also please take the time to visit a few breeders and be prepared to go on a wait list for the right dog for you - of course once you have thoroughly researched the breed (if you havent already). huskys really arent for everyone which is why so many young huskys come into welfare.

They are a high energy demanding breed who are intelligent and get bored easily. they are nuturiously arent good at being left while everyone is at work as they are a pack animal etc.

I travelled over 7hrs for my pup.

Preloved is a good site for dogs but there are scammers on it. Never send money upfront unless they are a reputable breeder, if you see a breeder and want to know about them, ask on here first.

Anyway welcome to the mad house

EDIT: will teach me for not reading the whole thread. Just realised you found one, however will leave the info below for others in the same situation :)

========================

Its difficult really to answer this question. The best advice that I can give is look around for one, then once you find them do your research on the breeders. Its often not difficult on the internet to find out if these people are decent breeders or idiots.

Also, stick around. We don't allow the advertising of animals for sale on the site, however once your around all the time chatting and the likes you will soon get to find out who's got what your after. Simply dont rush it and you'll find the right husky will find you :)

Just to note also. The list of breeders that was posted above. Please be careful with things like this also. When you see something like the above the best thing you can do is see if you can be added to that list as a breeder. Why? Because if thats something you can do with ease (as it looks like you can on there) then so could anyone else including the scams your trying to avoid. Its not easy, but you will find one m8, just take your time and keep your eyes pealed. In the meantime, welcome to the site :)

Welcome to the forum, I got Saskia as a new puppy and Wolf at 7 months old, Wolf was a chalenge to say the least as he was a very nervous dog but with all the love and effort put into him I would not change him for the world!! The one advantage on him being older was he was already toilet trained. I would advice that you get a crate so your pup can be crate trained at an early age and will consider it as his/her den. Puppy classes are brill too!! as they learn to socialise with other dogs and mad owners like us lol. Again welcome to the pack.
