Hey All,

I didn't get to the grocery store today due to weather. Odins stool was pudding like today rather than pure liquid. It seems to vary from day to day. Sometimes it looks normal, sometimes pudding-like, but more often liquid. :frustrating:

I am going to get the wings tomorrow and will let you know how it turns out.

I've found that my puppies tend to have some problems chewing up the bones in the wings unless I basically pound them to a pulp! It's possible that with the popularity of wings here as an appetizer, our chickens are larger/older than in the UK, and therefore have harder bones... They eat them quite enthusiastically, though! rolleyes.gif

Have you tried asking the vet to test the pups stools for cocidious it causes the vomitting and dioreha and then settles its self to a point, to being normal pup but still with dioreha we have had huge problems with our pup and it went on for a while as it can take a long course of tablets although cheap the vets charged us £7 for a weeks worth, gotta be worth asking them to check as it is a common problem with pups. Hope it helps.

I said I have submitted multiple stool samples and nothing was found. Is this something I have to specifically have them check for?

Feed the Raw Chicken Wings and see the difference, you should see what my husky is like when i get the chicken out she goes mental for it.

SO. I was feeding him a wing out of my hand holding on to it and he seemed fine to eat it by himself. One of my cats walked by/near him and in fear of the cat eating or taking it he ended up swallowing it whole. No issues, he didn't choke but it was a whole wing...am I to be concerned? Is this going to be a whole other issue when he decides he has to go or is his body going to do a good job of breaking it down? :o

Mine has swolled whole acouple of times and is fine, he will learn to eat it slowly and brake it down, and practice for when he moves on to bigger bits of chicken if you decide yo feed it him.

EDIT: swollowed bigger thsn a wing too. She knows to chew now though : )

Will post results!

So his first bowel movement was solid. It was only a little bit and has been on and off diarrhea so if it stays consistent then I will be extremely happy.

The wings I got are about 2.5-3 inches long. I fed him another one just now and removed some of the bone but he still seems hungry. How many do you think I should feed for him to have a good meal? He had a little kibble this morning, 1 wing about 2ish hours ago and another one just now.

YAY :D

4-5 for a pup should be fine in 24hrs. my adult will have 6 or so depending on the size.

Thank you! I had never ever known raw chicken was ok for dogs. Why is it most of you feed chicken wings rather than raw chicken breast? Can anyone recommended some links for me to read about this raw diet thing? If he keeps having solid movements I am going to stick to this for sure. Actually I am sure there is probably multiple threads about the topic I will do a search.

when you give him the wings make sure you hold on to it as well, i did this with embry when he was sick and he actually ate the whole wing whole without chewing it up

I must have missed this response...Odin did the same thing! Haha.

to be honest i dont know the science! but huskys dont do well on kibble full of additives and fillers like wheat and rice. i would like to do 100% raw diet but wary of not getting it right so i do a mix (not at the same time).

but as for sorting out tummies - its the rich calcium in the bones which sorts it out. you can also give them some actimel (the little bottles of live yoghurt drink for humans) that also helps to sort them out. i usually add half a little bottle to the chick wings if they have an upset tummy but the chick wings on their own will do the job.

chicken necks are also good (get in touch with your butcher for some doggy treats!!)

I also give lamb bones, he also like steak!!

Solid again this morning, awesome!!!

It has to be his food. Now to figure out if its overfeeding or an allergy. I looked into raw feeding and as much as I would love to stick to it, it seems to be more costly and confusing. I did a little Google searching since I cant search raw diet on here due to a 3 letter restriction while searching and came across a spread sheet someone made. You need to figure out how much of each vitamin and mineral they need to get based on their weight, but a puppy is ever growing so it would be extremely hard to determine this. Also they aren't too clear in the spreadsheet on where you can pick these vitamins up etc. If there was a dummy guide I think I would be more inclined to stick to it.

I think I am going to continue with the wings for a few more days while doing some more research on the diet, then try kibble again (I am going to try a new brand). Now should I introduce this slowly? I know someone suggested that in this thread but then others have also said DO NOT mix kibble and raw due to the fact they digest at different rates.

Thank you all so much! I am hoping even though I would love to stay raw that putting him back on to kibble his belly will be OK. If not I will be forced to stick with the raw diet...which in all reality won't be bad. That little push will force me to learn more about and do it correctly. You guys rock! :)

EDIT: One other question, I accidentally bought a pack of wings AND drumsticks, I am assuming the drum sticks are just as good as the wings?

yay glad he is ok :)

drumsticks will be fine too :)

like kells suggested have a look thru the food and diet section there are quite a few raw threads in there

also with the slowly introducing kibble back maybe do it 1 kibble meal in the day ? then increase how much kibble and decrease how much raw

Glad to hear it, but youwill have to check out the food and diet section there are some threads by Sid Wolf that really make good reading i went all over the net reading advice and really every site tells you somthing different thats why it seems a little confusing, but Sid Wolf gives you the main out line easy read and very understandable, i just feed mine Raw and offel, and Treats and some times Raw fish mainly sardines and i dont think its that costly really.

Thanks all.

Uhm so he WAS doing great, maybe I am just being paranoid again but now I think he is constipated!!!

The wings I was feeding him were "mini wings" I was giving him 1 full one (I used culinary scissors to cut it into pieces) and then I was shaving the meat off of two other drumsticks or wings. So for a meal he was getting 1 mini wing w/ bone and then the meat off of two other drumsticks or wings. I was doing this three times a day for the past 2 days...he was solid and it looked perfectly fine. Then last night I got in from work and took him out and he only did two tiny nuggets and wanted to come in. Today the same thing...this morning a little nugget and then same in the afternoon. I had planned on going back to kibble today I bought 100% grain free blue buffalo "wilderness" food yesterday but I am afraid to feed him any more food.

Is it time to take another trip to the grocery store for some pumpkin or am I being too paranoid about this whole thing?

Hi Jonathan, just had a quick read and wanted to say dont worry about the fact he is only doing little nuggets while your just feeding raw chicken wings,, its normal, i bet his stools are a bit chalky too, if so its because he is having a little too much bone, but he will get back to normal as soon as you introduce something different into his diet,

Personaly i wouldnt go back onto to kibble but thats just my personal preference, raw feeding isnt a hard thing to do.

It's surprisingly softer than I had expected.

I looked at some raw threads and it's all in kg and what not. I wouldn't even know where to begin. Also the prices for raw foods in my area are pretty steep. I bought two packages of mini (about 2-3 inch) wings over the weekend and it was 10 of them for about 8-9 dollars depending on the weight.

ok in short he is gonna need about 500 grams of raw meat a day, chciken wings are good if they are having probs with loose stools but dont feed too often as there isnt enough meet on them, im not sure about where you are,but try to look for meets that are reduced in price because they nearly out of date and things like that also tinned fish, mine love sardines and tuna, raw egg once a week with the shell, im not sure if you can get it but i buy all my meat online from companies who specialise in raw feeding products, its cost me about 4.50 uk pounds for 2 kilos of raw beef.

Oh if you want to know,, a kilo = 2.2 ilbs

500 grams= about a lb
