Demon

Hi Shaan and welcome,

uve been given some brilliant advice and it will work.....honest!

the trick is really to be very consistant and not back down at all, sounds like he hasn't been trained properly on how to be nice but you will soon get it out of him if you work at it like Keath has suggested.

Marley (my adopted boy) was a bit 'iffy' with his food, but after a few feeds as been suggested and few strokes while he was eating,he's soon turned himself around. Now he eats quite happily next to his little sis' with no bother.

by the way,is he fed next to your other pup? maybe thats whats wrong at the moment too.....if he was an only dog he may not have been socialised very well.

i don't think changing his name will effect his behavior. i think if he's not fixed, get him done asap. changing his food to better brand would also maybe help a bit, Waags is like feeding mcdonalds to your kid everyday. Wellness, Taste of the Wild, Orijen are just a few of the better brands of dog food.

Slight update, he went to the vets today as I found him swallowing a pair of socks whole :o. They x-rayed him and said that he is all fine, he is on a rice and chicken diet with some rice pudding to help push it out.

His name has also officially now been changed to Dakota. I was never keen on Demon =]

What a great new name and you are off to a new start leaving the past behind! Just treat a lot when calling his new name and he should respond to it in no time! Keep us updated and what a naughty boy eating those socks!!! Well now you know where they go when you start missing some! LOL!

lol @ the name change. I like his name I think it suits him not for his antics but because it looks like you can associate with it.

I do not feel personaly a name change will make any difference infact I feel it would be pointles a name does not depict the personality even if it seems so at the min. sakari means sweet when she was younger i could have killed her a few times defo not sweet. It's just phases and learning curves they have

I was thinking if you changed his name it won't change the behavior but demon been disiplined might have a inpact like when we got gus the person before the one we got him off used to smack gus all the time so the guy changed his name as soon as you said his name he would run cause he know tht the only time he got called he got a smack soon as the guy changed his name and gave him a treat he learnt that when he got called it didn't mean he was in trouble. Maybe that might help dokita

when locking his cage maybe putting a sheet over it to block his vission.....

This did help Ryn when she had difficulty adjusting to her crate, but know that a determined pup could pull the sheet through the slots on the crate and in doing so, could hurt themselves. Perhaps try something a little heavier that you're certain pup can't pull through or pieces of a cardboard box...you don't need any dental problems on top of everything else.

Edit: I've been told to be careful what you name your dogs....many have a tendency to live up to their names!
