I am gutted. I was made redundant on Monday night. I never even saw it coming. Anyways, here is hoping that it is a start of better things.

If anyone has computer problems or wants some website work doing for reasonable fees, give me a shout.

So sorry to hear that mate, Happened to me just before Christmas, some companies have no souls. Stick in there, you never know it may be a blessing in disguise.

On a website note, I had a person ask me to remodel their website, but I've now started a new job, so not sure I'll have the time to do it, and with Kody coming back soon I wont

have any spare time at all.

Ill send you a message with the details. Its actually 2 in 1 deal. The first one is a simple redesign. The 2nd is for a holiday let company including online booking and possibly a store.

Best Regards

Rich & Kody

Damn Rob, that sucks. sad.gif

Good luck, finding something else.

The job market is a nightmare right now.

But with your . . . more specialised skills you may find something quicker.

or . . . start your own company.

I've never heard losing your job referred to as being made redundant. Interesting how language is different in different countries. Lost my position after two and a half years last August. Might have been a blessing in disguise as just a couple weeks later we adopted Andy, and two months after that , Jackson. I could not stand being alone and had just recently had to put my Stormy girl down, in mid July. I have had only 3 interviews since then, and am now waiting to hear about a final decision. The waiting is the worst and the job market here is the most awful in a very long time. Try to use your time wisely. I have not. I spend a lot of time with the dogs, a lot of time looking for work, but do not do the house chores that would make sense when I have the time. Try to keep busy and exercise for your physical and mental health...a walk with the dogs is always a good move. Best wishes....

So sad Susan as just been told the same and she works for the NHS for fifteen years so no one is safe it seems sad.gif

This is nothing short of despicable in my mind, NHS / Fire and Police should not be cut. Theres enough trouble in this

country with violence that these services are vital. Wish the government would pull their fingers out and sort the youth out.

I have several "acquaintances" (wont call them friends as they piss me off) who i went to school with. We're all 26 now and some of them have 4 - 5 Kids. And they

are open about why they have so many ... it = more benefit money for them, free house, free food, free alcohol . Makes me so damn angry. I have to work for them

to smoke weed and drink all day while they provide the bare essentials for these kids.

So sorry to hear that she has become part of these cuts. best of luck to you all.

Best Regards

Rich & Kody

In the UK its pretty normal terminology "being made redundant" when you have to leave the company through no fault of your own, when you say "I've lost my job" it can be

mistaken for that you were fired :)

Thanks for explaining. I was also "made redundant" as working for social services, funding budgets were restricted. In my case, if you heard about a guy named Bernie Madoff...he was the real reason I lost funding for my program. Very sad. Hoping the situation changes soon, for us both!

hmmmm.....

I don't know what Susan does, so I'm not commenting on her specifically, but the NHS is a completely bloated organisation with several people all doing the same thing when one would do, just because they're in the next town or whatever. I'll give you an example - I used to work for a company which supplied medical instruments - they would incubate a blood sample and be able to tell if the sample contained certain diseases - quite specialised stuff. I had a call one day asking why our maintenance fees had gone up 3% when inflation at the time was 2%. I said that inflation wasn't our only input to the costs, and the specialist lasers, etc., had gone up faster than inflation, as well as fuel for our engineers, etc. Also, when they'd bought the machine originally, they'd had a 75% discount, so we really couldn't move on the maintenance costs. This woman called every day for a week, and over the course of our converstations, it became apparent that her job was to call suppliers and negotiate down increases. After about the 5th call, I looked again at the update letter they'd been sent, and how much their maintenance was going up by. The 3% increase, for a year, was £60. She spent a week chasing me for a £20 discount! How on earth is that a good use of NHS resources? Their phone bill, let alone her time, must have come to that, and it was clear when I pointed this out to her that she had no clue how much she was actually asking for - you'd think that they'd start with the highest actual amounts and work down....

End of rant. Rich, I agree that clinical staff shouldn't be cut, the problem is that there are more management & clerical staff in the NHS than doctors & nurses - when you tell them they need to save money, they're not likely to put themselves up for redundancy unless there's a nice big golden handshake for them.... :(

ETA: Rob, sorry for hijacking your post, hopefully you can find something soon. Quite a few people I kow have done pretty well after being made redundant, it's given them the freedom to go off and do something else. In the meantime, if I hear of any web stuff, I'll point them in your direction.

Cheers

Vince

  • 3 weeks later...

Start my new job on Monday...Woohoo!!

Really enjoyed spending my days with the dogs though and will be really sad to go back to work :( I felt I was really starting to strike up a great bond with them. They have never been as loveable with with as they are with my better half, however that seems to have changed a lot over the last couple of weeks.

Anyway, Monday heralds the dawn of a new job, a great opportunity, small increase in pay and the dreaded daily commute down the M6 to Birmingham through the worst section of road in the country.
