Hi there,

This is all very new to me! Never thought I'd register with a forum of any sort but when we decided in September that we wanted a husky dog the first thing we did wast start research! We have books galore on huskies but sometimes the best place to find the answer is online and it's even better when you can find information from people who are in the same boat, people with experience and, most importantly, people with knowledge who are willing to hear you out when you are fretting about mushy poop...weight gain...funny whines...etc etc.! We really did take our time in deciding if a huksy would be right for us. We both work, so that was our primary concern, and everyone seemed to be very forceful about the fact that huskies need people who have owned huskies......a very annoying catch 22! So, after 2 months of research we found our puppy!

Our huksy is called Teeko and we bought him form a wonderful family...accidental litter. His father was KC registered but the mother was not. They weren't established breeders but their attitude towards us and the dogs was very comforting (the puppies even slept in their bedroom!). Added to that, they were happy for us to visit regularly and from being only 3 days old we saw Teeko every Sunday for an hour a week until we brought him home just before Christmas. From day one he has been surprising and wonderful and so very chilled out! He never pined for his litter and he is still a very confident and independent little thing. He takes himself to bed when he is tired, doesn't fuss or whine and he is doing really well with his toilet training. Night time is our only issue but I am confident that that will stop also when his bladder is bigger.

I decided to register with the site when I read a thread about mushy poop! Silly I know! But we have found that if we increase Teeko's food by the tiniest amount he will have mushy (fluffy) poo but we worry that he eats so little....honestly hardly anything if you look at the guidelines. He is definitely a lean dog. I can feel his ribs if I try but I can't see them and my vet friend says his weight is good but we still worry! It's natural I suppose. So it was comforting to read about other huskies who seem to only be able to eat the amount you would feed a small rabbit before their tummy decides it is too much! It's not that Teeko wouldn't eat it mind....eat eat himself into a coma given the chance! Ha!

Anyhoo....Teeko is now 4 and a half months old, beautiful, he goes to puppy class, he sings along with his squeaky toy and he is the best thing we ever did! I am 28, a primary school teacher and my partner is 31, working shifts in a call centre at the moment.

Doubt there is much more to tell and I am such a terrible one for waffling on about nowt! So! Nice to meet you al! I am slowly finding my way around and figuring out what to do but any tips, advise etc etc on raising a 4 and a half month old husky would be most appreciated!

Tam

Hi there Tam, Sam, and Teeko. Welcome to Husky-Owners. If you are concerned about Teeko being too thin, you might try adding a feeding. Don't know how many times a day you feed him, but at his age once or twice a day would be too little. Three or four times per day would be better. Oh yes, the picture thing. We have to see pics of Teeko.

Teeko is from Durham. I dont suppose Shadow's mam was a pure white and they had four adult huskies in total? If so, I may well have met him at the beach with his huskies and his scooter...ha

Hellllooooo there!! Welcome to the site! We're just up the road from you in not-so-sunny Ingleby Barwick, Stockton-on-Tees. My dog's come with me to work everyday and it's got that much of a routine, our lass says they do her head in if I go out & leave them.......especially Demon & Benjiblink.gif. Both of them dote on me and are as soft as.....! But that's my fault for constantly play fighting with them and letting them get away with owt...lolbiggrin.gif We studded our Koda, twice now with an accredited breeder's Husky bitch over your way and kept one of his son's (Demon) as part of the 1st deal. She's got a couple of pups left from the 2nd time and is contemplating keeping one, poss the 2!rolleyes.gif (that'll be 5 in her 'Pack' then!). If you ever wanna get in touch, we're on ************************** and we could av a chat.wink.gif I'm normally out n about up the woods up our way with 3 dogs, 3 kids & a Mrs in tow!tongue.gif, but most the times it's me on me own as kids gotten aulder now & have "other things to do", if you know what I mean? lollaugh.gif
