Cant believe I am writing this but Spirit has a new home

Yesterday started brilliantly. I bounced out of bed and let the dogs into the garden. My neighbour called me and asked what had we decided to do about the dogs so I told her our happy news!!

But then she explained that they were introducing a 14day clause. So if you were caught with more animals than you had registered you had just 14days to find then a new home or yourselves alternative accomodation.

There was no way that I would risk spirit ending up in a dogs home again, as 14 days is very little time to find a new home!

So I made the heartbreaking decision to trial him with a lady from Swindon. A huge thank you to claire (husky princess) for putting her in touch with us)

I truely could not ask for a better home for him. This lady is a dog trainer, already has a huskamute and 2 other dogs and is a member of a canicross team (spirit loves canicross)

So I had to face the decision of carrying on and hoping to get away with it, or finally putting Spirit first, our feelings second, and giving him to a wonderful family that could offer everything we had and more. He left us yesterday for a trail at him new home. We are waiting to hear how he settles, so i will keep you all informed

Spirits story......

Spirit came to us from a very abusive background. His previous owners had been drug and alcohol dependent and as a result spirit had suffered at the hand of the male of the house.

The male had booked him into a kennel, whilst his partner was receiving help for her alcohol abuse and refused to collect him. He then signed him into the kennel.

The kennel I have to say, took alot to be admired, the conditions were FAR from ideal. They seen spirit as aggressive due his extreme lack of excersise and the fact that he was mouthing (he was only 6 months old at the time) So they had not been exersising him or giving him any human contact.

As soon as we saw him, we fell in love with him. We paid the kennel fee and popped him into the car!!

On arriving home it quickly bacame apparent that the abuse he had suffered had had an impact on him

He was nervous around men, was frightened to come in and out of doors and was nervous around any sudden arm movements. We worked on these issues from the very first night, gaining his trust. socialisation was key that was started immediately with lots of introductions to other dogs and humans especially men.

Slowly over the coming months he became a well balanced dog with a very fun loving nature and a bucket full of energy. We had even taught him to do some tricks.

Although it has broken my heart to leave him go, i am also pleased we had the privilage of having him and helping him to become a balanced husky with a renewed trust in humans.

I'm sure Spirit will be fine in his new home and hopefully you can keep in touch with him and see him at meets. :)

You should be very proud of yourselves, you took in a young boy who had been through way too much in his short life and turned his life around. And for that I'm sure if he could he would thank you from the bottom of his heart.

completely agree with you, I totally understand why you have chosen a new home rather than wait and then not be able to find the right one for him, but my heart goes out to you all, as you have been up and down so many times over the last few days, all because of some stupid selfish people. Hopefully he will settle and you get regular updates and to see him.

Ali, so sorry to hear your news, I know you have worked so hard with Spirit and I'm sure that will continue in his new home with people who understand his needs. I can't believe anyone can force a family to make a decision like this. I hope you get lots of updates on Spirit, big hugs to you all, xxxxxxx

Oh God no :( This is such devastating news....I certainly wasn't expecting it after things seemed so positive! I'm furious at those horrible selfish people that caused all this in the first place, once again the minority have ruined it for the majority  It sounds like he's gone to a fantastic home though at least which is excellent :)

I'm so sorry you've had to o through all this, just reading about it is breaking my heart, I can't being to imagine how it feels :( Just remember everyone on here is here for you. Stay strong, think positive. Sending big hugs xxxxxxx

Oh Ali I'm gutted for you. I'm reading this in tears, but as you said you had to put Spirit first and you couldn't live having to look over your shoulder all the time.

You gave him a great loving caring home after his desperately cruel start. Its circumstance completely out of your control that have put you in this awful situation and you have made sure he's gone to a incredible home that will continue your hard work.

I hope you and your family aren't struggling too much with the sad re-home of spirit. Kids are amazing at slightly sweetening a hard situation.

Good Luck in your new home Spirit

Can't imagine how hard this is for you and your family. This is why I refuse to ever live in a place where there are community "associations" or the like. I hate that people can just decide one day you're only allowed to have this many xyz and if you don't comply we'll seize your dog or kick you out. It's cruel and unjust. I wish Spirit the best xxx

what a rollercoaster of a journey this has all been. I know you are gutted but you can feel at ease that Emma will run his little socks off!! you have given spirit an amazing new start by rescuing him from that hell hole of a shelter. i still cant believe the environment he was in, we did the right thing and got him out

chin up hunni
