Lil Miss Bump
my first car was free, was a c reg (1989) nissan micra but couldn't drive it as you could put your feet on the floor in the back-and i mean pavement floor-it was like a flintstones car! Then my mum passed on her c reg micra to me for free when i passed my test 3 years ago-i loved him but when i moved to lancaster he did not like hills :-( so my friend gave me his old rover 500? It was huge! We lived up in the hills in lancaster and one day in the snow it rolled on black ice straight down into a parked car as i pulled out of my parking space :-( hated it after that, past xd it for a fiat punto-cost me over a grand then well over a grand and a lot of inconvenience being stranded often in the lake district-that engine exploded coming off a slip road-told u it was a duff car! So bought another reliable micra but because i was bezzin all round the country to work and was only a 1 litre it didn't like this so part xd it for the escort-which as you al know was written off on wednesday :-( i'm now buying something with a long mot for about 500-800quid and keep that for as long as possible :-)

Shadowpup
I'd probably ask my granddad to go with me. He worked as an engineer at the RAC for years. But he's ill now so I'm not sure if he would. He seems to think I can't get anything runnable for less than 2000 pound.

SarahNukka&Shadow
Well I dont have a car yet but am learning quick so hopfully should have one soon... I'm looking at Honda Jazz's and not looking to pay more than £2000 but hopfully less... got my eye on a few on ebay that look good. Most are 1.4 but I'm looking for anything under that as apparently it lowers your insurance.. quotes Iv had to insure a Jazz I'm looking at about £1200 for the first year. But their a low insurance band due to mostly being little old lady cars so I'm hoping to get something that will last me some years and get me to husky meets and to uni and back every day! My sister on the other hand doesnt have a student loan to play with so IS looking to pay under a grand and she is finding quite a few nice little runners on autotrader! What the others have said about having someone male with you to sound like he knows what hes on about is deffo an idea, Im hoping my mates BF will help me as he does up old Rovers so knows generally what hes on with! Shadowpup
My father in law fixes cars as well and would go with me but I'm not sure I trust him... everything he 'fixes' breaks pretty quickly after.... and he thinks he knows everything But I know I could trust my granddad to go with me and tell me if it's any good (if he feels up to it). I'll have a word with him next time I'm over.
Sqwidge
Price wise, mine will be slightly different to all of you as i have a Motability car, so i only have to pay a deposit on it, then the mobility portion of my allowances pays for the car and everything else. I don't have to pay insurance, tax, services, general maintenance (so new headlights, tyres etc all free) and i get to buy a new one every 3 years. My first car was a 1.6 Renault Megane Sport...2000 reg, before they fudged it up and made it look like it had a huge ass! I was also only 16 as disabled people can drive a year ealier to enable them to be more independant, get a job and go to college etc...and that car was bloody quick, i used to do ridiculous speeds everywhere in it! The deposit (so all i had to pay) was £1,395...

Be careful buying from ebay Sarah, i know a few people that have sold cars on ebay and its usually when they are about buggered !!! Theres a garage a few doors down from me (repair garage) i know the guy and they are happy to come look at cars for you, also he gets in ex mobility cars to sell mainly vauxhalls corsa, astras and sells them on cheap ish being ex mobility they are usually pretty straight and looked after but he gives you a months warranty anyway. Then you can go bezzin !!!!! no idea if i used that right ask Diz ......

Although I am pretty set on having a Jazz so this bloke might not have what I want. I wasnt gunna just bid on ebay without looking and was mostly looking at garages anyway as I like the idea I can go and shout at someone who HAS to listen if stuff goes wrong right off the bat rather than a private seller who just wouldnt give a monkies once they have my cash! We'll see what I can find and compare some prices.

He doesn't usually have cars for sale he's mainly MOT and repair place but sometime he will get in 3 or 4 cars all at once (usually ex mobility) so small ish stuff, gives it all a once over and sells them on and gives you a month to come back if anything goes wrong. I've had 2 off him for family members (both 1.6 astras) and always take my car there for MOT or repairs if needed. Like i said its pretty much always Vauxhalls though and the odd pug (i think he knows the vauxhall main agent). I can ask him to give me a shout if he gets anything in under 1.4 if you like ?? i'm thinking because its new car registration in April he might get a few in. and thats Boo woooo duck not Bullwool tut tut
SarahNukka&Shadow
LOL! Oh right, mmm deffo worth a look.. whats his prices like? instant-classic
Prices start at about 1k upto about 3k depending, i know it sounds a bit dodgy saying he doesn't always have cars for sale but selling them isn't his main business its repairing them. I promise you the dudes ok and not going to rob you even if he is a bit of a miserable old sod Yeah you go with the honda jazz there really good cars. Bulwell chavs call it Boo wooo duck Sky's more Boo woooo woooo wooooooooo
