so the dark room did the trick! Finally got some photos developed from my step dads old SLR camera :D

Stard on slowest shutter speed and looking at th pics I need to increase it a bit so not so much light gets through. Here they are (The light and contrast has been adjusted slightly on these but if yo want originals you can have them too :)

Need to work more on getting the focus right too

some nice shots there :)

Focus will get better with practice, if you 1/2 press the shutter button does it focus? Not sure how old the camera is

Try a shutter speed of around 1/600 if you can set it to that, that will reduce the blur aswell when they move :)

thanks for the tip hu, rep added it doesnt focus with half a button press, it is probs about 15yrs old!!! Have seen camera in argos Im going to save for, only a cheap one but think it will do whilst im starting. WIll tak a look at te shutter speed not sure if it does have that option but maybe wrong.

To avoid the overbright images you need to

Increase your shutter speed (this will also reduce the blurring)

and decrease the aperture size biggrin.gif

  WHOA!!! Thats gone right over my head

OK the shutter speeds are on a dial on the top of the camera

and the aperture size is also known as the F-Stop

and is a ring on the lens

Looks like this

fSTOP.jpg

If you open the aperture (F-stop ring) you let more light in

If you close the aperture (F-stop ring) you let less light in.

see the image below

F/16 = less light

F/2 = more light

Fanx biggrin.gifI haven't used my SLR for probably 15 years, been digital since then

and I haven't really had to think in these terms for a Loooooooong time. ohmy.gif

Aperture also determines to depth-of-field of an image. I had my aperture opened as much as possible (lower number) while at the camp to get as much light as possible so I could get fast shutter speeds. Depth-of-field means how deep the portion is of the images that is focused.

It's the difference between this (notice the blurry background):

And this (aperture more closed, higher number)

But shutter speed is usually the best way to control the amount of light. With huskies I usually try to get this as high as possible. (I had it permanently set at 1/1000s at the camp)
