New husky owner but forever husky lover!

Hello everyone! I've just become a new husky owner and I'm very proud to be a husky momma. We just bought a beautiful little girl today, she's 9 weeks old and she's just amazing, I love her already but she's very very shy so we're trying to gradually allow her to become more comfortable in her new home. She was bought by my grandparents as a college graduation gift for myself and I can't be more thankful as I've always loved and wanted a husky.

More about myself, I'm 24 and my husband is 30, we're both major dog lovers especially husky or akita dogs. We have a total of 4 dogs all different breeds. I have a 4 year old lab which I've had since she was a pup, a 3 year old yorkie which I just recently got as a lap dog and hubby has a 11 year old mix (looks like a overgrown basset) and now we have a husky to complete our little family. I figured to get the most out of owning a husky I'd join a forum dedicated to the breed and learn as much as possible about them from those with experience so any advice to a new husky owner would be very welcome. Will post pics of our baby in the photo section.

th_Hello_Huskies.gif and Welcome to the pack. From your display pic it looks like you have a very pretty husky. My Kuma Bear was also very shy when we got him, however he is older 7 months. We were told he has always been a bit shy but warms up quickly. We have had him just over a month and he is doing great with us, he has opened up a lot. However he is still shy around new people, he has almost gotten use to one of our friends but we have 3 friends that always come over together and he's still unsure about them. The first time they came over he hid in the hallway almost the whole time. This past time he actually came out :D

Thanks, it's good to know our ilttle girl isn't the only husky that has ever been so shy. My mom's husky when she first got him was really social and loveable from the start so I was a little worried and you just gave me some hope!

Welcome again Jody! Also posted in photo section.;) Would also love to see pics of the rest of your pack as well.:) Huskies are independent and strong-willed. Your patience WILL be tested but they are the best dog(s) you will ever own. I LOVE my two!! They are intelligent and very light hearted. They require lots of exercise and need to be kept busy because of getting bored easily. If you have any questions post them up as we are a very friendly group! :wavespin:

Welcome to the pack!! Please take a look at as much research on the breed around the forum and externally as well. Huskies make fantastic dogs but are very challenging, particularly when they start to mature. It's really great that your grandparents brought her as a present for you, but I just want to make sure you know what you're in for XD

Welcome.

We have two Huskies, and a white GSD.

Daughtry our youngest Husky is very shy, we have done everything we can to socialise her

however she remains very timid and doesn't do strangers very well.

You'll quickly realise Huskies are unlike almost any other type of dog.

So if you have any questions or worries feel free to ask.

Also share all your funny and happy moments too. rolleyes.png

Glad to hear she is coming out of her shell. It took Bear a while where he was older but his personality is emerging. He's very sweet and goofy. He'll actually come seek out attention now, even tries to get in my lap at times. This past week he has started being more vocal and making the cute wooing noises :D

Welcome to the pack . When we got our male Husky at 7 months old he was extremely shy and timid and took a lot of work to get him to where he is today at age 4yrs, but well worth it. Your bundle of fluff is young enough to learn easier so good luck and most of all enjoy!!
