sutsibe
Every June, my little town has a town-wide celebration for 4 days. On Saturday, there are garage sales all over town, and a 5K run/walk race. Sunday is the community church service in the town park, on Monday, the carnival moves in and they have a kids' parade - at the end of which they choose Little Mr. and Miss Aplington. Tuesday is the final day, with a parade followed by a huge party in the park. Parents and grandparents listen to the music, eat the goodies available, and talk, while the kids run around with their friends, ride on the several rides, or play carnival games. I took Zeke down to see the festivities. Here are a few videos (most are very short) and pics... We started out at the parade... (sorry, not sure how to make the videos load rather than using a link!) Here's a really short one of my not-quite 11 month old pup, Zeke. http://youtu.be/vGzI6PyH1F8 Participants in the parade throw candy to the spectators. I was surprised, but Zeke was really picky! He got a piece of red licorice, and didn't care for it - or several flavors of taffy (he did like grape and strawberry!) http://youtu.be/qRVYTcjsOTI This one's for @Mazz - Zeke wasn't sure about the tractors - I think he thought they were monsters that might come and get him! http://youtu.be/X04SyYPkpwU Quite a variety of people participate in the parade. There are floats from various churches and community organizations, Queen candidates for the town as well as winners from surrounding towns, lots of local fire departments with their trucks and ambulances (the more noise, the better!), farmers on tractors, even the local Karate school. There are usually some horses, but there weren't many this year. They usually come at the very end of the parade, which this is! http://youtu.be/5EPCo97s8jA After the parade, we walked down to the festivities in the park. I think Zeke was petted by half of the kids (and a lot of their parents) that were there, and he loved it! We wandered around so I could get something for supper, talked to people, and listened to the band, which were performing both gospel and bluegrass music. Here's a short video... http://youtu.be/03LE-KvPlI8 Don't know if they have Walking Tacos in other areas, but that's what I had for my supper... Take a bag of nacho chips, crush them a bit, add taco-seasoned hamburger, cheese, and whatever taco toppings you'd like, stir, and enjoy! This is Zeke... Rosemary
Great pics That must have been such fun. I love community events and festivals. Zeke is absolutely gorgeous. My two love black licorice
sutsibe
I think that the licorice was cherry flavored - he might have liked plain old red licorice or black licorice better, hard to say! I was amazed that he was so fussy! Usually anything sugar gets them!

Thanks - he's a sweet "little" guy, and I was so happy with how well he behaved! Yes, I can't picture much more different from a Stephen King-type town! Pretty typical of small towns in similar areas, I think...

Laine
Mmn... Taco's. See, I miss that; the tacos we have up here aren't as good as there. I will say, you guys in the US know how to celebrate more than we do up here. Your parades are always more than ours.

Dunno, may well be that's because there's so little else to do when you live in a small town that you have to MAKE your own amusement! I used to go with friends before they moved away a few years ago... I miss doing that with them, though! (My friend Rachel was always happy to "puppy" sit for a few minutes while I got some food or whatever! Most of my friends in town aren't real dog-people, unfortunately...)

Every now and again, I look at him and he really reminds me of his great-great grandfather - go figure! Not sure just what it is, but I think it's partly the masking - I'm not used to my guys having that so much! I thought of you and Dave when the tractors came by... A friend of mine's husband restores antique tractors, so I've seen the pitiful condition that most of them are in when they're dug out of a barn or dragged out of a field. The transformation is amazing.
