More poisoned dogs (not Siberians)

A LEOPOLD family is devastated after a vicious backyard poisoning attack killed one of their dogs and sent their other into violent convulsions.

Darren Blair and his partner Kylie Pantony and her three children arrived at their Christies Rd home Friday night to find their 18-month-old staffy, Bonnie, dead and their 11-year-old Staffy, Tyson, convulsing in his kennel.

Mr Blair, who found the remains of meat packages filled with snail bail all over their backyard, said his family was left sickened by the incident.

"We're finding it really hard to come to terms with it," Mr Blair said. "What makes it worse is Kylie's pregnant and hysterical at the same time, and the kids keep asking if they can say goodbye to Bonnie."

He said he had no doubt it was a deliberate act because his neighbours' dog, now stabilised, had also been targeted with a similar poisoned meat package.

"I mowed the lawns yesterday and the amount of snail bait still around the yard was incredible," he said.

"We really don't know the motive; the dogs might be a bit rowdy at dinner time when they're getting fed, but apart from that you wouldn't even know they're there."

While there was nothing they could do to save Bonnie, Mr Blair said their vet was able to help Tyson by flushing out his insides.

"They were surprised he was still alive considering the amount of poison he had in him and confirmed the meat used was lamb tongues," he said.

"He's still not himself; he seems really lost because he's missing his mate too."

Bellarine Police Sergeant John Dunstan said it appeared someone had walked up the driveways of the neighbouring houses during the day on Friday.

He appealed for people with information about the poisonings to contact him on 52 562 698.
