Chewbacca_&_me
Hi there Aladdin, I hope you have a wonderful time raising your husky. I have one especially important tip for you, and I will be happy to elaborate for you if you ask. Tip# 1: Always be the leader for your pooch, this means that you should never give your husky puppy anything that he doesnt earn. Husky pups (especially males) respond best to their owners very well if they know they have to work for their rewards. I.E. : the puppy has to sit before you throw the ball, before you put down food, etc. Basically you will want to teach your puppy what you want him to do to get what he wants or needs. Aladdin
Chewbacca, I am trying but the problem is Abu knows 0 commands and never listens to anything not even his name =\ I am not sure what to do but I am going over the training tips some more. I need to get him trained he just does not listen at all. I try to pin him down every now and then but I do not know how effective that is. Sarah, I just posted another picture of him at 10 weeks you might like. I would love to get addicted to something like this. Looking forward to it
Chewbacca_&_me
Hi again, How old is your husky?? Im sure that between me and others here, we can help you with training issues. As a matter of fact now that I have figured out how to do videos on my didital camera...I will be very happy to show you how I got Chewbacca to be obedient. Chewbacca still has more training to be done...but for his age he is quite amazing...(in my biased opinion...LOL). I will make some videos and post them in the training section if you promise to check them out, ok?? If you want to see for yourself that Im not a whacko...watch the video of Chewbacca that I posted in the video section yesterday... He talks back, but he does pay attention and follows commands about 80% of the time, and is getting better every day. Let me know if you'd like me to do some videos ok?? CanadianWolf
best off first to play with them to get most of the energy drained out at first. they can be quite hyper little guys. after that find a good treat that he will go wild for, im sure you will know when you have found it. after just teach sit alway start with saying his name first to get his attention and then say the command. you can ither 1. say sit and puch his but down once down hold it there and treat. immediatly after treating say ok or good what ever you want the releace command to be. 2. say sit hold the treat just over his nose and bring it over his head once he is sitting give him the treat and say your releace command only keep this up for 5 times maybe if everything goes well and go on and play again. keep traning short and with lots of praise/treats. as you get it down to 80-100% you can move on to other commands. i find it best to have a training spot in the house so he knows what to expect at first. once he gets the commands move all over the house and gradualy add distraction. dont get mad, keep it fun and train 3+times a day he will pick it up

Mazz
Hi Aladdin - Abu looks great! Exercise Abu, take him for walks, tire him out. I too live in Iowa, near the Quad Cities. Our Husky, Zoya is 9 months old now. She is fairly well trained at this point. She now sits before eating and won't go for her food until we say "OK". She lets us know when she needs to go out, and we still praise her every time. She sits on command, lays down on command, and comes on command. We still cannot let her off leash though, unless it's in the fenced area of our property. The key is to be consistent, don't get short or angered, because Huskies can be stubborn. We found that ignoring Zoya when she did not want to comply, worked well to get her come to our way of doing things. We never did the "pinning" thing with her. That does not always work with Huskies. Keep working with Abu, short periods of traning are better than elongated periods. He's still young and it will take time, but the bond between the two of you will develop and become strong. Looking forward to seeing you around. If your looking at methods to keep/make sure your sibe is happy is to keep their minds occupied. They can get bored quite easily if left doing the same thing or left with nothing to do and that is usually when destructive and unwanted behaviour can start.
