MollynDiesel
I have a female scottish terrier and a male chihuahua yorkie X and i am planning on getting a Husky puppy. I have been researching for about 7 or 8 months so i hopefully make the right decision but i have no idea if i should get a male or a female. I would love to get a male but i dont know if 2 males or 2 females are better? Also aslong as i set up boundries from day 1 with the Chihuahua X and Husky should they get along ok without too much trouble? Both the Scottie and the Chihuahua X get along well with other dogs and are calm and relaxed at home and they both know their place. I take both dogs out for a 30min walk at 6:30, again at 5 for an hour, sometimes i go to the park if its good weather and i have a bike leash for weekend rides (really tiring) so excersize definatly wouldnt be a problem for a Husky. All i really want to know is with the proper training and time will the chihuahua X and the Husky become friends and would 2 males or 2 females get along better? Thank you all
Paranormal Wolf
Since you are getting a husky puppy and it will grow up with the smaller dogs I say all should be well there. Most would probably say get another female as sometimes males tend to fight over females. But I have heard of females fighting with one another. I currently have 2 males and have no problems and in the past I have had a pack that was mixed with males and females. Are any or will any of the dogs be altered? Spaying and neutering can help reduce the risk of fighting, won't guarantee it won't happen but it does help.
MollynDiesel
The Scottie is spayed and the ChihuahuaX will be neutered before i get the Husky. The Husky will also be spayed or neutered
Paranormal Wolf
With some training and socialization I think all should be fine Good luck when you get the pup, be sure to post lots of pics.
Tan J P
with the proper introductions you will be fine. we brought Marley into our home which already had 2 mini-dashies and had no problems although he was 14mths, but we then brought Shadow into the mix at 7wks old and no real problems although even a tiny husky pup are quite rough at play Shadow use to try and grab the dashies ears and shake them:eek: and they were stupid enough to let her:eek: as long as they are all well socialised and supervised together it'll be fine. Charley
I personally would get another female as have heard of males fighting each other if a female is present, but not sure if this still applies if both males are neutered ... Good Luck with your search! x
MollynDiesel
I would never leave the Chihuahua and the Husky alone, i know that just asking for trouble Thanks guy, im so excited!
Franklin Phil
Yeah, a little risky. Huskies can are known for killing smaller animals, though dogs less common. Still the fact that you're getting a puppy should make it work. I definitely wouldn't bring home a husky any older than twelve weeks. Removed #5
I have to go along with the crowd here, introducing a full grown husky into a family of very small (from his viewpoint) dogs is an invitation to major trouble. One of the existing is going to think he's the alpha and the grown husky would disabuse him of that idea quickly. Bringing a puppy into that mix *should* work out since he'll learn to socialize with the smaller dogs as a small dog and that should hold through as he grows up. Actually I think it'd be interesting (laughable!) to watch the Chihuahua go into a barking rampage with the husky just standing there wondering what the <censored> this was all about!! Charley
@Indigo & Oisin has a chihuahua, maybe she could give u some info on how it works? x
snowpups
Spirit lived with 2 chiluhuca but the people had to rehome her because she was to rough with them and would hurt them. Which would worry me with a husky and small dog. I know indi and osion and kells have small dogs with there pack but they have other larger dogs so they might be able to help. Tan J P
A lot will depend on the temperaments of your little ones now,you know your own dogs have they been round bigger dogs at all? my little dashies were very very laid back and old fur-people,and like i said previously we had no problems whatsoever when we brought Marley home it was like he respected they were oldies:) but i did stay under house arrest for 2wks just to make sure i felt at ease with them together, then, when i 1st left them it was only for 10mins i gradually upped the time and they were all great together:D
Andy
We recently introduced a chihuahua (Lil' Sh!t) into our pack. We were worried at first about him becoming fast moving furry nommage. We monitored them all together for a couple of weeks. Echo and Darwin were curious but pretty much ignored him. Daughtry on the other hand gained a best new friend. Lil' Sh!t was curious but scared of these HUGE dogs but soon learned they were JUST big dogs. Now they all get on great he plays occasionally with Echo and Darwin but it's Daughtry he's really bonded with. Just 5 minutes ago the two of them were zooming up and down the stairs, over the sofa, through my legs and back up and down the stairs. Lil' Sh!t chasing Daughtry . . . sooooo funny to see. James
should be ok, Kita I got Kita at 16 weeks from the breeder, she now happily lives with an old King Charles Spaniel, but she had grown up with a minature Daschund, She can be a little over-excited around small dogs, But she is very fond of smaller dogs! MollynDiesel
Both are very used to bigger dogs. My dad has a lab and my Auntie has a German shepard. Whenever we walk we also encounter ALOT of bigger dogs and neither of mine bat an eyelid. I keep trying to find a Husky to introduce to them just to see what they think but once i see 1 i never see it again. Werid. Anyway hopefully after a few weeks when the excitement has died down they'll all get along

Kissu & Aara
Yeah, i think it will depend on the husky. Kissuna picks on my cats a lot, but at the dog park, if a toy sized breed approaches him he will sniff it, and then trot away from it while looking at it like "what the heck is that??", then went and played with the big boys. When one of my neighbors had her two chihuahuas off leash, they went running up to Kissu, yapping at him. He raised a paw like "get them away" while looking disgusted. Then when one of them tried to bite his paw, he wagged his tail and was about to turn it into a squeek toy if his dumb owner didnt get him. Also, you say they are both mellow. If they are too mellow, a husky (especially a growing pup) may be too much for them to handle.
MollynDiesel
They are quite mellow but its like they have 2 sides. Inside- Calm and quiet (unless its food or play time) Outside-run as fast as you can and make as much noise as possible! If the scottie can handle the chihuahua she can handle anything! lol
BingBlaze n Skyla
@Andy vids im sure it will be fine, so long as they are introduced properly mine have never been introduced to smaller dogs but even my male who doesnt like other dogs seems to know theses are just small dogs n wont/cant hurt him with regards to 2 females/ 2 males - its really up2u - we have 2 males and 1 female and when we introduced our female into the pack only one of our dog was neutered - they are all fine
MollynDiesel
I suppose because every dog is different theres no possible way of telling how any of the dogs would react to each other so ive just gotta hope for the best

MollynDiesel
How's the search going? x Atm im just trying to meet more people with Huskies so i can hear what they think and see what tips they can offer. Trying to get as much research as possible but all this waiting is driving me crazy! lol Still dont know if a male or female would be better but i dont think it really matters as long as its either spayed or neutered. Then when i think im ready i have to find a good breeder and then find the right pup for me and not take the first pup that comes running over and jumps on me lol. snowpups
If you want a good breeder speak to raindog ie mick he will give you some good breeders and most have a waiting list so start now hun it took me a year until I found ice and he is so laid back he was not like your normal husky he never chewed, was fully house trained at 4 months and could do sit, lay, wait, leave, everything at 3 and half months he is still lazy he would rather sleep then out walking after a 45 mins of walking he turns stubborn and won't go any future and makes me carry him lazy git like I said not a normal husky lol
