Aquila
I'm planning to start my 6 weeks old puppy on raw diet. I gave him some chicken skin a couple of hrs ago and he took it without any problem, but I would like to ask if he is old enough to be on raw diet? Andy
Before we domesticated dogs they couldn't pop down to Pets @ home for 15kg bag of kibble and some tins of Chappie. As long as you chop it up fine he'll be good with RAW
Aquila
Thanks! I must say that he's all over the chicken skin. I never saw him get excited like that before !
Removed #2
Be careful, when we gave it a try, the next day both dogs were deathly ill while we weren't home and it was a mess. Some have said make sure it's frozen, first.
Aquila
What did you do about it?
Tanya-Meika&Keeva
It has been said that freezing meat will kill off any bad bacteria etc that may be there.
Aquila
I see, thanks for the tip!
miracle
No, it doesn't kill all the bacteria. If it did, humans would eat raw food. What it does do is kill off most parasites and some bacteria. This requires a few days in most freezers, though, so make sure it's been frozen that long. Please do a lot of research on this topic before choosing to switch over. There have been some pretty nasty instances that have resulted from people not knowing exactly what they were doing. I don't raw feed myself, but I've spent countless hours researching the topic. Just make sure your source of information is 100% unbiased and that you're taking all necessary precautions. Good luck and I'm sure your pup will love it.
BingBlaze n Skyla
blaze was having raw chicken wings since before we got him (7 weeks 3days old) and was fine just supervise so he doesnt gobble it down TOO quickly - also depending on what hes fed now transition him over slowly otherwise he will get a bad tummy
