I work for the local water company. Just over a week ago, one of our major trunk mains in Liverpool, UK , 42" in diameter, fractured causing water to spurt into the air & flood surrounding houses & businesses ... here's the news story http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-news/local-news/2011/07/19/flood-chaos-in-huyton-causes-hundreds-of-residents-to-flee-100252-29078446/

but here are some other pics of the devastation it caused while it was gushing ...

how absolutely awful

my nephew had to move his family out after a really bad flooding

they were in rented accomodation for a year while their house was sorted.

it was horrendous for him and his wife and 2 young tots.

£76,000 was the insurance bill when all work was finished:jawdrop:

When I live in the northeast the mainline outside my house ruptured and caused a large flood which stopped 1/4 inch short of coming in the front door. I must admit the water company sorted the problem and paid for the damage to be repaired promptly
