Extremely scary experience!

I had Shiloh and maya who are now 11 weeks old at the dog park. They are finally warming up to bigger dogs. Yesterday however, someone brought there greyhound in. The greyhound decided it wanted to kill Maya. All og a sudden i turned around and maya is screaming and a guy is trying to rip its mouth open because it had her by the back. i flipped out and ran over there and grabbed maya. i thought we were never gunna get her out of its mouth. Me and another guy got bit by the greyhound and after we got it to let go it came after her in my arms. It was terrifying. i would have picked up maya and shiloh if i wud have known they ha the greyhound in there. Luckily it just had maya by the extra puppy skin and she was scared more than hurt. She just has a cut on her back and i have some bites on my arm. I think i was scared more than she was. I felt like my legs were noodles. They wouldnt stop shaking! I am officially traumatized. Anyone else have an experience like this?

O.M.G!

thank god she is ok make sure you give her a thorough check over though

and yourself if you've been bitten, may need to go to a&e.

did the owner not come across?or was the dog on its own?

i do hope she is not traumatised by this, let her settle for a few days and maybe get her to puppy classes

so she will learn that other dogs are nice(if you dont already)

Oh dear sooo sorry this happened. There's a retired greyhound who goes to our dog park and I run into her every once in a while...She's a sweetie though and she's one of the few dogs that doesn't seem to mind Fox's just wanting to run up and down the hill all the time (alot of the others will do it once or twice and then are tuckered and annoyed that he keeps bugging em to go some more)...I really hope she doesn't end up being afraid of dogs because of this incident.

I'd definately see a doc after being bitten by another dog...did you happen to get the owners info?

Scarey isn't the word for it! How about traumatic!!

As everyone else has said, go get that bite checked out and you haven't answered - did you get the personal information from the other owner! Was "the other guy" the greyhounds owner or just a really brave stranger??

Hope everyone - people and dogs are safe and sound!!!

Coming from a greyhound owner.... a greyhound should never be out of the owners immediate control when small furry creatures may be running. That is a disaster waiting to happen. Many greyhounds live successfully in homes with small dogs and cats, but if you take them out of their home, unfamiliar small cats and dogs may be seen as prey.

If I was you, I would keep your pup in the small animal portion of the park (if there is one) or if you see an off-lead greyhound I would leave.

wow, never knew greyhounds could do that, but they are dogs after all. Tho all 5 greyhounds I know are all very nice dogs.

I hope the puppy has had all vaccinations...............and I dont think your pup should be running with big dogs yet, unless she has a good enough confidence and can wiggle herself out of situations.

The other guy was not the owner he was a fellow husky owner. He got bit as well. He also talked to the owners and they said the greyhound had all its shots. My bite is pretty much gone now and Maya is up and running around. She seems to be alright with bigger dogs still. The problem was the owners didn't watch their dog and so it attacked mine. Looks like they won't be bringing that dog to the park anymore. Maya and Shiloh haven't completed their puppy series shots though so I really shouldn't have them around other dogs. I just want them to be socialized. They don't really go around the other dogs though they usually stay by me. I think Maya isn't too traumatized by it. I'm the one who was! Lol. Greyhounds are just bred to go after small animals in racing so I guess it thought he was a rabbit.
