Sarah Louise McIver
Hello all! I posted this in another forum but didnt have much interest, just thought i would make you guys aware too Sorry its a bit lengthy Anybody interested in renting 12 acres? Im nosie and text the man who posted the ad, he said that the trails on this land are fairly even and could be levelled off further. The man has an interest in husky running and fancies a go at husky mushing, and thinks using the land for that is an 'interesting proposal'.... Anyway maybe there will be group of people interested? I would be!! Oh and the man confirmed via text that it is 12 acres. 12 acres could be alot if the trail was a circular/8/oval shape? http://www.gumtree.com/p/flats-houses/f ... d/88469149 (I later added) The man who posted the gumtree advert has just phoned me, sounds like a nice person and coincidentally stays 2 streets away from me.... The story is that he looks after the land and a holiday home there on behalf of his brother when he is not using it. The use of the rented holiday home gets quiet in the winter so training on the land in the winter months like owners do, generating an income for them during this time is ideal for them, and us! The man is willing to help make the land suitable for running if it isnt already. There is a paddock of horses in a field attached with 8 acres but they are fenced away from where the dogs would be. We are able to visit the place obviously for a look. The holiday home is also up for rent and 'dog friendly' and there are outhouses, the man said he is willing to turn these into kennels if people wanted to rent the holiday home in the winter and use the land to run on. There was also talk that if there was interest in renting the 'dog friendly house/ kennels' during the winter months, that we may even be able to use the land for free the rest of the winter The holiday home is http://www.bennanhouse.co.uk/index.html I think £200 per month is a really good price for 12 acres of land to use whenever you like, and an owner willing to change the land if required to make it fit for purpose.... If there was a group of people interested then it could be... 5 people interested - £40 each per month 10 people interested - £20 each per month 15 people interested - £13 each per month 25 people interested - £8 each per month 30 people interested - £6 each per month Oh well, id visit and probably go for it if i liked it, its an hours drive from my house, but i cant afford it on my own. Was just an idea OBVIOUSLY isnt not something people would do without seeing the place, and the man is happy for anybody to do that. Always been a dream of mine to have some countryside land and this is the least expensive option that ive seen.
stormchaser09
oooh exciting, we drive past this area on the way to the forestry roads so would be interested if there were a good few others interested as we don't have a lot spare cash. Sarah Louise McIver
Hi Angela, Which forest do you go to? Feel free to tell your Ayrshire friends lol. Im quite sad that there hasnt been many people interested, though i do understand that people arent spending cash on this kind of thing at the moment..... The man seems quite flexible, i was thinking about asking him if he would be interested in renting out to people at the weekends only, which is when most people would use it! (i work full time) Of course again, we would need to see it first. Im going to visit and take pics though....
stormchaser09
just watched the tour of the house and I've been in it when the previous owners had it as their kids were close in age to mine and we went to the same toddler group. stormchaser09
we usually go up near Loch Bradan area and use the Carrick forest drive depending on where they are cutting trees, I have a real phobia of logging lorries. Unfortunately I don't know anyone near me with huskies.
husky princess
i think the difficulty you will have is people object to paying £50-£80 a year for a forestry commission permit...let alone a similar amount per month.
Sarah Louise McIver
Hi Claire, I thought it was more like £100 - £150 for the permit? Thats what i had been told by some mushers! There would be wash/change/tea and toilet facilities etc somewhere like this as its private, which is why it appealed to me and i thought others would appreciate that part of it also, perhaps i should have said that on my post. Going home soggy isnt fun lol. I also would only be interested if there were lots of people wanting to rent the place as a group to reduce the price I couldnt find an opportunity like this and not make people aware. Sarah Louise McIver
Really Angela, have you been around the land then? Do you think its suitable and a large enough trail area for running, and worth a visit? xx

I've only ever heard of a max of £70, I pay £50 a year. whilst its private, if you had a large group it would no longer be private. I think the management of it with a large group could be difficult. I wish you luck though. Most mushers have washing, tea, toilet facilities in their van anyway - albeit not running water
