Laine
Don't know how many here ever read her books but I loved her Pern, Rowan and Doona series. Just found out tonight she died on the 21st of stroke. http://io9.com/5862031/rip-anne-mccaffrey-creator-of-pern-and-other-classic-books Sad, sad day for SF lovers. aronoiiel
hat is massively heartbreaking news! I read her Pern books as a kid and it got me really into fantasy. Heck my dad introduced her to me with the books he had as a kid. I was so excited for her son when he started writing the books as well. This is indeed very sad news. RIP dear lady may you always know your books have given great joy to those that sorely needed it

Michelle Sopi
I was brought up on The Dragon Series and The Ships Who Sang - Awesome - She will be sorely missed
Ravenwolf
Sad news, but also, sadly unsurprising. While I didn't care for her later work or the books that Todd wrote/co-wrote, the Pern series was monumental, and it's unfortunate that she never got to see her books come alive on the big screen. Farewell to an amazing and creative lady.
sutsibe
Very sad news, indeed - although I also preferred her earlier books to many of her later ones (couldn't get even started on Acorna!) I loved the first number of books in the Dragonriders/Harperhall series, and numerous other books she wrote...
