Four Puppies Abandoned

Four puppies that were left in a cardboard box on a Winnipeg street corner on Christmas Eve are being cared for by city animal services staff, who are seeking new homes for them.

The puppies, who are between eight to 10 weeks old, were discovered inside a box on the corner of Ellice Avenue and Wall Street on Dec. 24.

Leland Gordon, head of the City of Winnipeg's Animal Services Agency, says residents with unwanted pets should bring them to the agency, not abandon them on the street.

"It's critical that people understand  if you can no longer care for your animal, don't leave it on the side of a street," Gordon told CBC News on Thursday.

It is cruel and illegal to abandon any animal, Gordon said.

Gordon said the "happy-go-lucky" puppies are all in good condition and are available for adoption. Prospective puppy owners can find them on the city's pet adoption website.
