A man whose pit bull killed another dog in St. John's has pleaded not guilty to failing to keep the animal tethered.

Jason English was charged after his dog attacked and killed a poodle on Hayward Avenue last October.

English said he was asleep when the attack happened, and that he had left the pit bull in his gated backyard on Maxse Street.

In 2006, a pit bull owned by English attacked another dog near Quidi Vidi Lake.

English's trial is scheduled to begin in April.
