Thor/loki
Hi, I am looking for some advice, I might be getting the chance to rehome a husky from welfare but I already have a 2yr old dog which he loves playing with others is so laid back and has great temperment. But I am wondering how he will react with another in his home. I am looking for advice from other on here who may have done the same. stormchaser09
as he is a sociable boy you should be fine. We always had boy dogs (not huskies though) and never had any issues and none were neutered either. At the moment I have 2 crashed out snoozy huskies (Loops little lost girl) and our Storm and Gem and they are all getting on like a dream. I think it depends on the dogs and your attitude too, and I am sure you will be fine. Just let them meet on neutral ground first, be prepared for a few scuffles and move any possible areas of conflict e.g. toys and treats. I hope it works out for you, good luck. stormchaser09
Meant to add we always had a few years of overlap with ours which meant we have added a new dog to an established dog several times now and honestly have never had a problem. Rogue_Wave
Like stormchaser says, have them meet on neutural grounds first. From past experiance I can tell you that it is ok if it takes them a long time to start tolerating eachother, for example Rouge has been in my home for 6ish months and my brown lab is just now starting to come around to her. Seth89
My husky Tigh is the most laid back dog i know. We adopted a 2nd husky for him so he wasnt going crazy while we were at work. at first it was ok, but now he cant go 30 seconds without trying to eat her. He has to be kept upstairs and Lena (newer husky) has to be kepted downstairs.(never left alone its a a full house) So I have a person coming who deals with this type of stuff. So the cheapest way around this would be to re-home my Lena husky but there is no way im doing that, so just a heads up. Be ready do dump all sorts of money into a dog specialist. Could happen to anyone if it happend to me.
Seth89
but also note that tigh is a 80 pound beast who has a body fat index of like .1% and is all muscles. Lena is 35 pounds and he body can fit in tighs mouth. im sure of they were of equal size this wouldnt be a problem.
Tan J P
first of all your dog seems to have a great temperament:) have you asked about the temperament of the dog you are hoping to rehome? is there any possibility that you can take your dog along to meet the newbie, have a walk with them both and see how they interact? having said that, each time i have introduced a rescue dog into my home, we take them straight out in the garden, let them have a good sniff about, then bring out my own 1 by 1 and let them greet....closely supervised and ready to step in if anything where to happen:) so i would do much the same with your dog, meet at your door, little walk or straight in garden both with leads and see how it goes. good luck and thank-you for going to welfare and saving one:)
Removed #2
All I can say is that we didn't follow any of the rules, so to speak. Jack came for a playdate in our yard, stayed for about an hour or so, and we brought him home the next day. Jeff went to get Jessy 7 hours away from home, so there was no meeting her ahead of time, and he was going to bring her home regardless. You can go to our you tube and see her first hour home video and how we handled introductions....not smart, but they all love each other...(see the pictures from play time) from earlier today. Huskies mostly seem to love Huskies. We thought Jack would be an outcast at camp and he wasn't at all, and the huskies are the only ones he loves to be around!
